Las Colinas just had a renovation so it may not be in the condition you would expect normally. Stonebriar is solid. Check out Gleneagles or Stonebridge Ranch dye course. And don't forget about TPC Craig Ranch, believe they have q-school there in a couple of weeks.

As far as Houston, Woodlands CC is by far the best (Palmer, Tournament, Player in that order for me) and Deerwood at Kingwood Country Club. Lake Windcrest is a fun, easier course. The Golf Trails of the Woodlands would be next, then south is Magnolia Creek.

Where in Houston are you staying?

THANKS!

Found out Las Colinas doesn't reopen until early November...Booked Stonebriar and Timmeron, but may try to switch the latter as we are now staying in Galleria. Booked Woodlands Tournament for Tuesday, but haven't booked hotel yet...probably near airport as wife flies out Tuesday and I fly out Wednesday (but have to go to Missouri City before my flight)

I am curious about your trip. Just book tickets for a long weekend trip to Dallas in February. Thinking a round at the Dye Course, Gleneagles, and Stonebriar.

By chance does anyone know what the guest fee ballpark is for these courses. My dad is coming along on this trip. I was just going to have him sign up for the play away membership himself, but it appears it is no longer cheaper depending on what state you live in. We are from MN and they upped my price to 35$ a month, but when I went to sign him up it showed 60$ a month.

I was about to book a tee time last spring and the course dropped off the list. If you see a gem you would like to play, my advice is to play it before it is gone. My favorite course this year in the ClubCorp program was Engineers CC, followed by Firestone North and Firestone South.

Bedford Springs is out. It still shows in the Clubs magazine but if you call the Club Corp Travel line they will tell you they are no longer associated. Shame because I liked the place.

Not sure if they've been covered before, but the wife and I played The Golf Club at Indigo Run, Golden Bear at Indigo Run, and Country Club of Hilton Head this weekend.

Both Indigo Run courses had just been overseeded and were cart path only, so I can't really judge the conditions there. I got the impression from both that conditions would have been good if not for the overseeding. Upside to the overseeding was that we were able to get through 18 holes in about 3:15-3:30 playing at a casual pace.

The Golf Club was a really fun track. We were treated well by the staff, reasonably nice amenities. Guy in the pro shop went out of his way to make sure we knew where to find everything when he found out we were first-timers. Would definitely go back.

Golden Bear was a bit meh. Guy in the pro shop was a bit surly, other staff were nice. Course itself was a bit vanilla. Seemed older, or the facilities weren't as well cared for. Wouldn't be in a rush to get back.

Country Club of Hilton Head was great. Beautiful clubhouse/locker room. Helpful staff. Immaculate conditions. Fun layout. Only complaint was the carts. They're at the end of their lease cycle, due to get new ones in at the start of the year. First one had a squeaky axle that would have driven me crazy the whole round. Second one had a squeaky axle, but only when you were taking corners at half speed, so at least it didn't drive me crazy. Outside that one little issue, overall a great experience, and would definitely go back.

Secondandgoal, gonna take a stab at this... and I know you said "this weekend"... because I played Indigo Run last week also, and met someone from Swansea. (It was my wifes 1st round of golf on a real course ever). That wasn't you, was it? I know it may be a stretch...

Oh, and I 2nd his summation on the courses. BTW: The hurricane a few years ago didn't get rid of ENOUGH trees on Indigo Run. Some of them are very much still in the way. ;)

Haha, no, that wasn't me, I live in Halifax. I was also playing with my wife, we were on Indigo Run Saturday afternoon. Not surprising you'd run into another Masshole there, though, the place is absolutely rife with transplants :)

Played Country Club of Hilton Head the other day. Good value for $31 and got paired up with a couple of members who helped me navigate the course. Pace of play was under four hours.

The front is pretty tight with dog legs and water. Accuracy is at a premium. Quick greens but not treacherous. Nice sand you could thump.

Some very good par 3's with trouble lurking everywhere. The par 3 14th was fantastic. Marsh left of the tee. Marsh right of the tee. Marsh in front of you. Elevated green with two bunkers in the front. Great hole with great scenery. Second favorite hole was the par 5 12th that ends down by the water. The highest point on HH is on a rise on the 12th hole. Tops out at just over 28'!

Played the round in the morning so the combination of heavy air and morning dew made the course play long. Add in front bunkers and elevated greens and my six and seven irons got a work out.

Played Currahee this year. Some great views and good conditioning. Currahee definitely requires a cart and that is a downer in my book. The distance between green to tee really breaks up the rhythm of the round for me. It is a nice place though. Heard the course was recently sold so we will see if it stays in clubcorp affiliate network...I bet they leave.

Absolutely love Dornick Hills! Great old style course designed by Perry Maxwell with some elevation change and rolling terrain. Small greens that roll really good and can be on the quick side, with short walks from greens to tee box. Played it a couple of weeks ago in a very strong wind. It was a beast despite being a shorter course. Signature hole is the famous par 5 cliff hole where you hit your 3rd shot up a sheer rock cliff.

Was there yesterday as well. Awesome course. Playing Deerwood today in Kingwood and it rivals Traditions. Would choose Traditions over Deerwood though still.

Read this entire thread, and I'm unclear what's the difference between "affiliate" clubs and the others? I'm guessing Affiliate clubs are courses that are for some reason not listed with Playaway? Any particular reason, or just random?

And typically how much more does it cost to play these--is there a discount at all, or the PlayAway just lets you get on these private courses?

Affiliate clubs are not owned by Club Corp but they have a deal in place that allows members to play them. Usually with Play Away you just pay the cart fee which is around $20-$40 which the exception of some higher end clubs where there is an additional fee

Thanks PNG! So in your experience, are there any ClubCorp courses which are available to play for cart fee+extra and are NOT listed on their website? I ask because I've read about some courses through this thread which then are not listed on the find your club website. (specifically, like La Costa in San Diego)

They can change over time. I played La Costa last year in January for a $20 cart fee. It's now listed as a preferred green fee rather than a complimentary green fee.

You should use the "Benefits Finder" on their website. You can look everything up by location and it will list all the available courses to play in that city. It will also tell you if that course has complementary greens fees (you just pay cart fee) or if there is an extra fee involved

I think they were asking if there are any courses that aren't on the benefit finder, but still affiliates. I don't believe there are. I only know of those that are listed.

> @PNB_Golf thanks, i was perusing that benefits finder list but I'm not sure how to properly select each pull down. For PlayAway, what do you select for Club, My Community & World?

My Club: Play Away

My Community: None

My World: Play Away

But it really doesn't matter. You will get mostly the same options no matter what you put
