Relative to the era:

 

Ping TiSi driver --

First driver I could launch high and relatively flat with the new titanium heads. (not the "tec" they ruined it with too much draw bias). Callaway GBB like the "Tec" also had too much draw bias.

 

Titleist professional 90 golf balls --

Loved the firmer feel and lower flight. Could work it low in the wind and make it run. (Professional 100 spun too much). This was the ball tiger used to blow away the field at 97 masters.

 

Vokey "Oil Can" lob wedge --

Simple in design, rustic in appearance, and got the job done with it's generous soul and bounce, and nice feel

Played with a fella at Spyglass last weekend - a great player - who still had his Callaway War Bird 4W he used in high school/college back in the 90s. He'd had it refinished raw, modern shaft and all and he absolutely smoked it.

 

And he's not the only guy I've seen still gaming a War Bird.

 

I had one back in the day and that sound really brought back memories.

Im not sure if this has been mentioned but I really enjoyed my Orlimar Driver back in the day.

Taylormade R9 Superdeep. If you needed to drop your spin numbers there was nothing better and there hasn't been since.

Lots to choose from and I build up bags of various OEM's of the stuff I've prefered over the past 15-20 years, and I just prefer older gear given it still performs and great value on the used market.

 

Titleist bag: 975J, 983K, 905R for drivers, 906F2 fairway, 660, 670 and 690.CBs for irons. SM O/C's and 200 series wedges, Tei3 NP2 putter.

Taylormade bag: 510TP, V Steel 3/5, 300 Forged irons, Y cutter wedges and a Monza Corza putter (first "real" putter I ever bought myself).

Cally bag: GBB driver and fairways, '07 X forged, Proto irons. X Forged MD wedges, Odyssey Tri Hot 3 and whitehot 2ball putters.

Original ram tourgrind not fx or anything the original golden rams.

Learnt to play with them in my teens snd luckily got down to scratch and played in English amateur championship with them at 19. I practiced a lot

Still got them and 34 years later just started to whack balls again and those clubs are just magical great ball flight gorgeous feel when the sweet spot is had. Flight of long irons is just perfect and still to me the original golden ram irons are the prettiest irons I've ever seen just look right. I've tried loads of other makes not ever to change but just so I could compare nothing back then or now gets near them for me. Pure beauty and top notch qualify.

When I got the original golden ram tourgrinds 1980 ish they were actually quite rare everyone went for wilsons or hogans- not for me golden rams all the way.

EYE2 Pat. Pending irons have been my favorite followed closely by Anser X putters. I'm a bit partial to Warbird and original Steelhead fairway woods as well...

Looks like I'm set for fairways, if this thread is any indication - Warbirds (3+, 4, 7, 9, 11), Steelhead (3 & 7), v-steel (3 & 7). Now, if only I didn't suck...
