How will you stay active this winter?

My game always falls apart over the winter because I never practice

I need to motivate myself to get out there and play or practice when its below freezing

I'm going to be hitting the simulator/launch monitor twice a week. Good way to stay in swing shape and test new goodies.

I got a part time job at the new TopGolf that is about to open near me so make a some extra money and get to practice for free all year long! And get to bring a bunch of friends all for free too!!!

Priority number 1 for me is to drop about 20 pounds over winter. That and getting back into yoga at least once a weak. By spring I’ll be leaner and more flexible most likely resulting in my swing being all out of sorts until around this time next year.

I live in NC, so I'll be playing golf...at least when the temps are above 45°. Although courses near me never close, I can't do golf in extreme cold.

Ahhh the magic 45 degrees! I completely agree about NC weather. Hopefully this winter will be rather a warm one.

I too will be cutting weight. Not necessarily for golf, just realizing that as I get older and beat up at work, that I don’t bounce back like I used to. So I figure cutting a few pounds and being healthier won’t hurt in that regard.

 

As for golf specific, just working on my putting technique. I think I found a solid repeatable stroke with my preferred forward press the other day. Gonna work that out. Finally, I’ll be swinging at least 1-2 times a week on my skytrak. Being in Wisconsin, I’ve found it invaluable for practice with our weather.

I'm trying to get out into the garden and practice my swing when I can. Unfortunately I can't hit balls while doing it but it's the best option I have. As usual I will try and get a round in every weekend but so far the weather isn't cooperating. We're getting quite a lot of rain and when we get dry/lovely weather it's during the week. I would normally just accept that winter damages my swing but I had made big improvements to my swing that were just starting to come good when the weather turned.

 

Oh look. A lovely sunny day outside. Just like yesterday. And Monday. And what a surprise - the weekend is going to be rain. If I was religious I might shake my fist at the sky :(

Couple of trips planned, Vegas, Southern California, and the carrot on the stick, annual boys trip to Myrtle in March.

 

Weather and course permitting, I have a group of diehards that will play every Sunday. Skins only. I watch the forecast like a hawk hoping each week is a go.

 

I'll swing my Goldflex in the back driveway as often as possible, keeps the golf muscles lubed.

 

Then, I just pine for Spring.

Ice fishing, well hopefully it gets cold enough to fish for 2 months. Takes the mind off of golf, keeps me getting exorcise and provides good eats!

Hopefully it won't get too cold here in Texas, but during the time we have winter rain, I will be heading to the Sim with Trackman a couple times per week; I will also be rotating into my heavy lifting schedule.

Same. Except the temps. I doubt Tampa, FL will get down that low this year.

I'm more of a fair weather golfer, and will wait until next spring to resume playing. Maybe a few trips to the golf dome. Also, although I don't need them, I'm looking for a new putter and possibly a range finder.

Our facility has heated bays, so I can hit balls in the winter, unless it is brutally cold.

Putting up an outbuilding for the golf simulator next week. Hope to have it done by the end of November. Going to Myrtle Beach for Thanksgiving and Hilton Head some time after the Super Bowl, other than that, it's all indoor.

By wearing my rain pants over my shorts... the early tee times can be a little chilly here in AZ. I'm usually packing the pull over and pants by the fourth hole though.

Well I had a nice plan until I went to the doctor this morning. I went in for a follow up for retina surgery that I had in July. He checks the other eye and guess what I get to have surgery tomorrow because the other retina is detaching. I was just starting to feel that my body and swing were back to where they were before the first surgery the last couple of weeks. It was a really good plan though.

-indoor range and hit 50 balls full swing once a week.

-100 pushups and 2 minutes of plank three times a week.

-leg swings and one leg balancing two or three times a week

I have a SkyTrak in my garage and my club has a heated indoor range but you hit the balls outside. I usually hit 200-300 balls per day. And with my SkyTrak I can do anything except putt. We got snow today and it barely broke 30. My course is open year round and I will play as long as it's over 40 with no snow on the ground.

I have Net and Mat setup basement. Do not need to concern how far they go. Just focusing on making solid contact of my iron/wedge

We're mostly clay here so most courses suffer to some extent. At one of the courses my buddy and I visit (Rye Hill) it's 'the usual suspects'. The 14th Fairway which is a small valley so water always collects along the bottom. The 15th Fairway - a couple of years ago they dug a new stream but it didn't do a great deal - and the top of the 16th near the path.

 

Oddly my own club seems different every year. 12 months ago the 10th/1st was almost a bog. The year before it was the 5th/14th. This year the 13th/3rd seems the worst. The only consistent one is the 9th/18th where the right hand side is always either 'a bit soft' in summer or 'a right old bog-hole' in the winter.

 

Most of courses stay at least partially open all year round but there are times when I think my own club should shut a few holes but I've never known them do that.
