BubbaWhips Alignment Sticks

Placed my order on 8/15/19 and received the sipping information this morning. Hopefully I get them by EOW. I have a Stitch stick cover on my current rods, but when these come I'll probably go without, they look great alone without the cover...and the stick cover has becomes more of a pain than anything here recently.

I have a stitch stick cover and it is tight getting the 5/16" sticks (with the plastic ends) to fit. The 3/8" wood will be harder I am sure.

I’m not a noob, and I use a headcover on my driver. I’m confused by your question/sarcasm

Why are you putting the alignment sticks in your driver head cover? They make covers specifically for them.

No sarcasm. I’m genuinely curious to know, but not curious enough to try it myself. I’ve seen what the fiberglass ones do to driver crowns and it’s terrible. Unless you have a well padded head cover on the driver or a cover on the sticks, the alignment sticks can do a number on the crown paint. Do the metal caps help prevent the marks?

Almost finished with my first pair. I bought 3 pair of dowels. I may build a set for a friend of mine.

My first steps were to lightly sand the dowels, then stain and gave the a couple of coats of oil based varnish. Then taped and painted. I layed down a couple of coats of black. Then masked and layed down some red, finally masked again and applied the white color.

Using masking and spray paint is slow. Mostly time to mask evenly, then paint and wait for paint to dry before applying more masking. Hand painting with one of those fishing rod rollers might be a lot faster. But I dont have one. So tape worked for what I have.

I still need to give them a final clear coat. The protect the paint, and extra sealing of the wood. Very happy with the outcome.

I have some rubber caps I may use instead of nail heads.

They look great. That being said for a normal person to buy the dowels ($15), stain, paint and rubber caps plus the time spent... $70 seems like a logical price as you would spend about half that on materials at home.

There’s nothing logical about this DIY. Not just material cost, but my time as well. It was fun, colors I wanted, make a few for friends, etc. But not trying to make sense here.

Ordered on 7/23 and I think they shipped out a few days ago.

I love mine but they took like 6-8 weeks to arrive and the company just stop answering my emails during that process. Great product, little to no customer service backing though.

It's all fun and games till Rory starts posting insta stories with Bubbawhips on the ground

Really enjoy mine, wish i could've snagged the pink ones but can't seem to get a DM response on those.

This is an excellent question. I was in the process of DIY. I just used some cheap Aspen or something. I had them stained and they were drying from the first layer of paint... then I shut my garage door on them and they snapped. So whatever pressure is exerted by a garage door is too much. LOL.

There is no business that makes alignment rods that has good customer service... period. Both companies mentioned in this thread I have had terrible experiences with. It's actually been incredible how people still buy from them. If anyone in here is in the slightest crafty and has at least half a sense of deadlines and shipping procedures... start a business like this and you will succeed. Both have failed to show any sense of courtesy to customers.

Not to derail the thread, but I recently worked with Moxie Sticks and he did a great job for me. 4 sets of custom sticks from reclaimed mahogany. Good communication, quick turnaround (for what it is), and fair price (again, for what it is).

I thought about putting an alignment rod cover on them, but then what was the point of getting awesome custom sticks if I cant show them off? Also, I like to put my headcovers on the sticks as I use the clubs. I found when I pull the headcovers off, the cover comes with it, so then I have to hold down the cover while I take the wood headcover off. It was all just more effort than I wanted to put in. LOL.

It took me cancelling the order to get a response telling me that my order was due to go out the next ship date. This was after seeing all of the influencers and celebs putting videos up of their new sticks. I decided to try again and notified them when I ordered that i was going to give it another go. They said it was a 3 week lead time, but he'd try to push mine forward. We're at 3 weeks now and I'm prepared for it to be another few weeks, but wondering if that's the norm with them?

>

> I don't see anyone else out there making something similar although, my wife is pretty crafty and could probably make something similar. I've also looked on ebay for used ones or similar products.

I just ordered 3 pairs of unfinished 48" hickory dowels today. I love to build and really want to to give them a try. Plus I can get the colors just like I want them. Maybe if I'm successful, I'll post a few pictures.

Could you tell me where you ordered the dowels and how much? I’m having trouble finding genuine hickory dowels...
