TM Hi-Toe 58 ATV vs. PING Glide 3.0 58 SS Grind

Has anyone done a direct comparison of the two? I currently have a TM Hi-Toe 58 with the ATV Grind that I like but have the PING Glide 3.0 SS Grind in 50 and 54 and love them. I play in SoCal with firmer fairways etc but bunkers varies. Im not a fan of the Eye2 shape so I would be sticking with the SS Grind if I went Glide in the 58 degree.

I did not try the 58 degree, but earlier today I pitted my PM Grind 19 against the Ping Glide 3.0, the TM HiToe and the MIzuno T20, all in a 56 and 60 degree. And while I have loved my PM Grind 19, it and the TM HiToe have great versatility, but I just could not get either one to match the spin #s I was getting with the Ping Glide 3.0 and Mizuno T20 on 60 yard and under shots with the 56. Not only was I getting higher spin numbers with these 2, but they were also a lot more consistent. Full shots with the 56 once again the PING 3.0 and T20 spin numbers stood out. The TM HiToe was the lowest spinning for me by a little coming in at 10,000rpm. The PM Grind was averaging 10,300, the Ping 3.0 was around 10,700rpm and the T20 was averaging over 11,000 spin with a heavier S400 shaft. Once again the Ping and T20 were much more consistent. I ended up with the PING Glide 3.0 56 degree because the spin numbers were great and the consistency.

As for the 60 degree wedges, the Ping was the best performer for me on full shots. But for partial and specialty shots the PM Grind and HiToe were just so much more versatile, but the full shots seemed to like to slide up the face and the distance and spin was more inconsistent. For my game I would rarely ever need to hit a full 60 degree shot, so I would lean towards the wedge with more versatility. I already own a PM Grind 19 60 degree so I decided to stick with it. But if I did not own it, I would take the HiToe over the PING 3.0 because of the greenside versatility .

You really can't go wrong with either. If stock shaft is something you care for, then take that into account. Both come with really noodley and light shafts. I, personally, am a big believer in Hi-Toe. Big fan of it. Very predictable turf interaction and the extra toe side grooves just build confidence and let you play those fun trick shots. Some people base wedges soley on spin but, the interaction, looks, and feel are all huge. Both deliver on all categories.

I'm a SOCAL guy like you and dig the ATV for a lob over a standard faced wedge.

I don't have the Glide 3.0's but I do have a Hi Toe 58 and a Stealth 2.0 58SS both on the bench right now.

For me, Hi Toe launches lower, feels a bit more firm and seems to play with less effective bounce. I do not like using it in the fall and spring when the ground can be softer/wet. The SS grind is so much better at dealing with soft lies, whether it be grass or bunker. The Glides are also softer and subjectively... look a lot more pleasing to the eye. I've gotten used to how the Hi Toe looked, but it took me a while.

My issue is, I really like the "idea" of the Hi Toe; that is, a little bit higher/longer toe section to give a little more spin and stability to shots that you hit with an open face. I can't tell you how many times I hit open faced shots with the Hi Toe out of rough and found the grass remains in the grooves out on the far toe area. Using a regular wedge on those shots means you're possibly hitting the ball where there are no grooves.

I've got a PM grind too which has an even more extreme toe area and more offset. I find that the PM grind is a little better than Hi Toe on softer conditions because it seems to have a little more camber to the sole... The Hi Toe looks pretty flat to me which is probably why I found it to dig easily. If you're looking for an LW that has a little more toe section give the PM a try. I agree the Eye2 wedge is just fugly looking.

I do love the Hi-Toe for that very reason you mentioned in regards to open faced shots. I have also found the grass marks close to the toe out of rought and wondered what the results would have been with a face that didnt have full grooves. Since there isnt much going on in the equipment world right now I figured I'd look for comparisons of the two since I like the 50* and 54* Glide 3.0's. The Hi-Toe has saved me on numerous occasions out of bunkers and I never hit full shots with it.

Hi toe can just me as much as is helped I think. I've dug it right in the ground or sand a few times.... I would even take it out and play all the shots I had side by side to the glide. I ultimately kept it bc it was superior out of firm bunkers which is what I tend to see on my courses and thats what is used for the most.

I'm considering going from 46/50/54/58 to 46/52/58/62 with the hi toe being the 62 pretty much just for bunkers, and put the glide back in the bag for the softer lies that it handles well but I still need some height.
