Scotty Cameron Refurbishing Help

Hi, I found one of my old Scotty's laying around (pic attached).

 

I'd like to touch it up by fixing up the knicks, taking off some rust, and doing something to toe finish.

 

I'm looking for a tutorial. I'm sure there's been plenty posted, but I searched and couldn't find anything.

 

If possible, can someone please post a tutorial or a link to a thread about it?

if you'd rather send it in, i'd recommend BOS golf. the SC custom shop is too expensive now and days. it also takes forever to get it back. BOS used to do the original shiny black oxide on the older SC putters.

Your problem is that putter has a nickel plated finish on it and unless you can completely remove it (not an easy DIY job) you can't get a good even finish on it again.

It’s plated and will be tough to do without stripping it. I have a putter over at Embrace right now. Lamont referred me to him. The person doing the work is Liam and he’s so quick to answer texts. Liam and Embrace actually are located in Lamont’s shop so I fully trust that he’s the right guy to do the work for me, otherwise Lamont wouldn’t be advocating for him.

 

Check him out on IG for his work. There’s a ton of guys out there capable of handling this for you. Just a matter of whom you feel comfortable with and the price point you want to stick with.

 

I was a firm believer in the Custom Shop but that was when restorations were $125. The spread between the Custom Shop and the independent guys out there is wide now, and again, the talent out there runs deep.

Norcal Putters fixed this exact putter for me. I had it refinished into a black matte refinish. Might be worth it if you plan on gaming it. They did a good job.

Ken at Kickstand Putters is my guy for anything plated, might be worth a look. Like the other guys have said, since it is plated a DIY would be a lot more complicated

Do yourself a favor and send it to BOS. They do amazing work at very reasonable prices. Here is an example of their work on a Milspec that I picked up cheap.
