I have added a piece of velcro to the edge of mine by the handle to attach glove inbetween shots/holes. I have ordered an umbrella holder so that I can get some weather (rain and sun) protection as I plan on still walking in the summer when it is baking out. Mine has a nice XL drink holder already, A sand bottle attaches to the metal of the cart. The only thing left is a cigar holder and i'll be good to go!

The umbrella holder works well. I only used it in the rain but it was real handy to have. Another nice thing to add it the GPS holder, if you have one. I wouldn't use it for a phone since the version I have has you sticking a plastic piece to the GPS to attach to the mounting bracket. It's been a number of years and they may have come out with a different system but it works great. It attaches where the umbrella holder goes and you can use both at the same time.

OT - I always walked unless there was a specific reason not to. For example a couple courses I've played require carts because the holes were spread out too far, or a tournament fee included the cart. Walking is good exercise and cheaper too. There's something different about hitting your shot and walking to it versus hitting your shot and riding around to the next guy's shot and maybe to yours next. The game becomes more self contained. It's mostly just my thoughts on the shot I have as I walk to my ball. But I also played a lot of my rounds solo as well, so maybe that part is just me, lol.

I walk 90% of my rounds. Pretty much the only time I ride is in a scramble tournament where beer is more important than golf. Nothing better than walking straight to your ball thinking about the next shot without having to pit stop at your partners ball. My game is always better when I get to walk and personally I hate the gym and working out so I rationalize walking as my "workout"

Keep on walking

I generally walk a small percentage of my rounds per year. My wife and I recently joined a club where push/pull carts are free to use, and I've only taken advantage of that once so far. That one round I did walk though, I played fairly well and 9 holes in about 1:45. Like others have already mentioned, I feel more connected to my game, the course and the atmosphere of golf in general. You don't have to worry about driving to one persons ball, waiting, then getting to yours... rinse and repeat. Even when you have a bad hole (or 2, or 3) I can use that time walking to the ball to clear my head and enjoy where I am, and don't get nearly as frustrated as I do when riding. One of my many goals for next season is to walk more than I ride.

Well said Chris. I think walking to your ball and being in your own world really helps with the overall sharp focus required to play a good round. I also really try to take in the secondary pleasure of walking in a lovely park-like setting for 4+ hours. Life is so good when we're out there, isn't it?

If you play somewhere where waiting on the group in front of you is relatively common, the seat attachment is awesome. When I first bought my ClicGear, I thought that I would never buy one of those. Now, it's my favorite accessory.

I love to walk and all my golf bud groups group walk except one. I ride when I play with those guys. My favorite local course is like 5000 yards. Perfectly flat. About half the people take carts. Not good. I like to play "power golf" when I can. If I'm a single and have the no one in front of me, I like to walk real fast and get my heart rate elevated the entire round. I did this playing a a very hilly course last spring and was huffing and puffing coming up 18. Played the same course a couple days later and my conditioning was much improved.

Push cart is great.

Interesting thread as this is a real cultural divide. Here in Scotland, carts are very much the exception (only available on request) - 99.9% of rounds (OK, that is a made up stat, but you know what I mean) are walked and carts are a rare sight. I love walking around a course - it's a huge part of the golfing experience.

Was in the US last year and played Pinehurst #2 - we'd been automatically booked a cart, so took one, but afterwards all agreed that (perhaps because we weren't used to it) it detracted a lot from the round as we kind of lost our bearings at times. When you are so used to walking from tee shot to your next shot over the terrain of each hole, it feels very strange to drive down the side of holes and then walk in from 90 degrees.

In the group (12-16) of guys I play with, only about 2-4 ride on any given day. We're retired, so our recreational golf is a social event as well. Nevertheless, ready golf and pace of play are emphasized, so our rounds are typically 3.5 - 3.75 hours duration.

An interesting observation (at least to me) is that we older golfers tend to walk, while the younger crowd (< 50, haha) almost always rides.

I also rationalize the 'workout' element of walking a round. My wife is always giving me s*** about how golf isn't a sport (especially if there's drinking involved :) ), but after walking 18 on our hilly/mountain courses I am whooped. Two or 3 days in a row and I'm _really_ feeling it.

I have had issues with wearing out 1/2 through the back 9 and losing my swing and then morale plummets and it becomes a slog. So rather than giving up and riding, I found a very light bag and started carrying only 9-10 clubs. It's much easier on the shoulders and back and even though I occasionally miss the clubs I left behind, I'll do much better with the lighter bag.

Pushcarts are a great option, but I'd rather carry when hills are involved. The aesthetics of carrying, too, I really enjoy. I actually went ahead and splurged on a Mackenzie bag and I'm loving the whole experience more because of it. It helps to be playing well, of course, but apparently I can't have that all of the time.

I love walking. I can slow my pace down and get to the ball and not have to wait long as my partners do by riding. It also gives me time to get over a bad shot and focus on the next one. Plus I have lost about 15lbs by walking as well.

Walking is even better when it's cold. 35* in a cart is ALOT colder than 35* walking.

You guys are reminding me how much I used to love walking. I used to do it all the time but had to stop after I broke my neck last year. I suffered huge losses in my shoulder muscles and just couldn't carry a bag anymore. A year later, the strength is beginning to come back. Maybe I can return to walking.

Something to work towards. Get a cheap 2nd hand push cart and start by doing a hole, then 2, etc. whether you walk or ride, it’s about the love of the game.

Not quite so much in a hail storm. My mate and I got caught in one once and neither of us had even brought an umbrella. And don't get me _started_ about trying to putt on a green covered in hail stones..

Then there was the infamous 'Feldon Valley incident'. A sudden and heavy late spring shower while we were working our way down the 3rd. I was wearing shorts so my legs dried quickly enough but my underpants stayed wet for the remaining 15. Not enough hip rotation I guess :)

A buddy and I once drove 15 hours from Tennessee to Kansas to play Prairie Dunes. Forecast was perfect when we left. Was going to be 60 and sunny. Well alot can happen weather wise in Kansas in a 15 hour period and when we arrived at the course the next morning it was snowing. Kept snowing. We played 145 holes in 2 days before driving back home. Tough to make putts when the ball picks up a trail of snow on the way to the hole......

I am one of two people at my home course who ever walk in our organized noon game. Both of us can keep pace with any 3 guys we get teamed up with. Sometimes my group will get a hole or two ahead of the group behind us.. I have a Bag Boy 3 wheel push like the OP's, one of the best golf purchaces I've ever made. I can't claim weight losses like others on here, but my 32 waist Dockers do get a little tight in the off season.

San Diego = Very healthy mix of walking and riding. You got your rambunctious group of drinkers and 3-4 rounds a year kinda guys always riding. Hoofing it with the bag on your back is normal but, I hate doing it for a full round. I'm known to over pack my bag so that's not a positive.

In New England, it's mostly ride only. I know some courses that deter from walking.
