Maltby PTM-4 Tour Milled

I've been wanting a milled putter for a while but just had no desire to pay the crazy milled putter prices. I've had Scotties, Bettis, Redwood, etc in the past and they were always nice with amazing feel but never really made a difference in my putting.

 

On whim (after seeing a review of it and a real picture), I decided to try out a Maltby PTM-4 Milled putter pack for $99. Had them swap the SuperStroke for a Lamkin Deep Etched. This this is absolutely gorgeous! It's probably too heavy for most but if you are like me and like a shorter putter (33"), it's perfect. Or you could always counterbalance it. But the feel and balance is impressive. Just a nice solid click with a great roll.

I’m a fan of their components but have always thought their putters looked like crap. This one changes things. That’s a sharp looking stick.

I just bought one and am having it built to 39 inches with a 15 inch winn grip to counter balance.

How'd that end up? Just ordered the parts to make a cb build. Using the golfworks 42" reduced taper and the winn Excell wrap 17" grip. Still have my original one in the bag.

Well it wasn't bad but with such a heavy head, I feel like with the longer steel shaft the club just felt to loose.  The only thing that helps and helps a lot is using a stability shaft in longer lengths.  I did not use a stability in the maltby but it started me on using longer CB putters with stability shafts.

Good info. I'm thinking the reduced taper shaft might stiffen it up a bit. And it has a 3" tip section. So tip it to the max. And play 38"-39". I also had them hand pick a heavier head as well. We will see then it gets here.

That is a great looking putter.  The PTM-1 looks even better to my eye, though I don't prefer the sight line on the topline as well as the flange.  I built a component putter years ago and enjoyed building it and playing something I had put together myself.

These putters are a great example of how powerful marketing is, and how much of a $400 high end putter is spent on the companies marketing budget. 

Just ordered the PTM-5CS head. $89 for a 100% milled "japanese carbon steel" head. Everyone is wishing all the major brands would put out a carbon steel putter.

 

Looking forward to building it and rolling it!

I know this is an older thread but is anybody still using this putter? 

 

I just put in an order for the Pak with the steel shaft and swapped out the Superstroke grip for an Evnroll Gravity Grip. It's coming unassembled. I've got some crazy ideas that I'll be trying out. 

 

They have to do with using a Maltby graphite iron shaft with somewhat of a makeshift sensicore insert (polyfill). 

 

I'll be posting my thoughts when I have it built up.
