Myles Garrett?

Yeah, not sure what he was thinking. They need to suspend him (at least) through the end of this season.

That was insane.... Sad thing is I can empathize with Garrett a bit for ripping the helmet off considering Rudolph tried ripping his helmet off first. Both actions are inexcusable. I think they deserve the same suspension for that action to begin with. But using the helmet as a weapon? That should carry something pretty big from the NFL on top of the helmet ripping. It is a literal crime and I think he should be charged. There is precedent in professional sports with several hockey players having been charged and convicted for crimes committed on the ice for attacking people on top of punishment from the league. Pouncey should get a few games for punching and kicking as well.

If history is any indicator the NFL will police itself. There will be no criminal charges. There will be fines and suspensions, but in hindsight it will seem light for the magnitude of the incident. I'd say 5 games tops and ineligibility for the playoffs.

I agree. At the end of the day it was assault.

Looks like the NFL has already ruled on it. Garrett suspended without pay the rest of the season at a minimum

Browns aren't even sniffing the playoffs this year

I think it's about right, Pouncey 3 games, Rudolph done for the year, and Garrett with the indefinite suspension.

Rudolph done for the year? Why? Not that he's the answer for the Steelers but I don't believe his season should be over...

why would rudolph be suspended? the game was essentially over and myles took a cheap shot at him and dragged him down; he defended himself. 1 game for ogunjobi was weak. He attacked a player without a helmet on as well.

Weird. First article I read had Rudolph as suspended but it's gone. Rudolph didn't defend himself, he tried to rip Garrett's helmet off in retaliation for the hit. He deserves multiple games if the NFL wants to be taken serious.

the worst punishment for rudolph is to be thrown out of the game for his actions. Maybe a fine. But not a suspension. MG should get 10 games.

I agree with you. Rudolph did start it all, but Garrett took it to another level.

Did you guys watch the video? Garrett tackles him and is off to the side and Rudolph is instantly just ripping at his helmet to pull it off for the hit. Who knows what he would've done if it came off but there was obvious malicious intent. Garrett starts to stand up and grabs Rudolph's facemask and rips the helmet off. Tit for tat. At that point they should both be held to the exact same standard. From there - well it escalates.

I was watching it live trying to keep up with my fantasy football players (thanks a lot Steelers D!). I see them fighting and i'm like "oh man end of the game fight yes!" then "Oh crap he took his helmet off - he better watc------OHH! WTF JUST HAPPENED. OH HE TRIED TO KILL HIM ... WOW THEY'RE KICKING HIM!!!"

 

Garrett deserves the suspension for the rest of the season - at least! Ogunjobi deserves the one game he got. he said he was defending his teammate by hitting Mason in the back? Mason wasn't even in the fight once they got Garrett to the ground. he was just standing there. I understand the Pouncey suspension (maybe 1 game?) but I don't blame him for reacting the way he did. Him and his brother were buds with Aaron Hernandez so that's not one guy i'd like to mess with.

Typical skirmish always happens in a gladiator type sports. Plenty have happened before. The difference this time is Garrett decided to use the helmet as a weapon. That is the suspension. What Rudolph did or didn’t do is moot.

I think the last time I saw live of a player taking a helmet and launching it was when Andre Reed took his own helmet and slammed it to the ground in the super bowl. Those darn lovable bills.

It reminds me of when NHL players lose their minds and then use their sticks for retaliation. The NHL always throws the book at them when that happens. I'm glad the NFL is taking a quick & strong stance here.

I'm surprised Rudolph got away scot-free. Garrett's tackle was unnecessary that late in the game, but his hissy fit and attempt to rip off Garrett's helmet didn't help the situation. Had Rudolph not reacted that, way the situation wouldn't have escalated the way it did and could have possibly been handled by the refs or the league.
