Dana Quigley and His Game

Dana Quigley was horrid off the tee in his younger days. Im talking to a point where you wouldnt think he was a professional...seriously. His iron and wedge game was SO good that he was able to hang with professional level talent, but thats about it. He became a drunk because...addiction. It happens. But then, with the advent of Tiger Woods, larger headed drivers and maturity of ones self....he had one of the greatest renaissances in golf history. Seriously...think about the scale of which he fell and then was able to attain success. Avg player, unknown...falls to obscurity and despair. Rebounds, gets some momentum, good timing...legend. Tiger was never avg so Im inclined to believe that Dana Quigley doing what he did...pound for pound...is the greatest golf comeback (plus some) in the history of the game.

The ball goes higher and stops just as quickly. You're asking all the questions; now let me ask you one: If I've made $13 million, and I'm hitting hybrids, why are you still using irons?”

Answer : Because I have self respect.

That Golf Digest story is crazy. I had the opportunity to play with Quigley in the early 2000s in a pro-am before an event. I knew about his streak, which would have been around year 3 or 4 at the time. He was a down to earth nice guy, and even though I didn't know any of this stuff at the time, he still had a "most interesting man in the world" type vibe (maybe he was MAJ's predecessor).

I've tried 3 different 6 hybrids, including Obee's model .. can't make them work for some reason, it's not for lack of effort

I have a 27* Cally UT that hits lasers so I don't have to worry about that anymore

I remember one of the guys that played the tour sparingly or and on from Massachusetts saying how hard it was to Monday qualify. He was schedule to qualify for one of the FL swing events in the late 80's and they had split tee times and he looked up at the morning scores Dana had already posted a 62 might have been a 63, wound ball days. He said here were other low scores but he knew him well.

Cause they all hook machine ; )

Hybrids are not just great long iron replacements, they can produce shots that I don’t think anybody, not even Tiger (gasp!) could make with an iron or a fw wood.

Example, I had a ball in some pretty bad rough, I mean, it was in there good. Was 200 yards out. No way to get an iron on it besides to wedge out and a fw wood probably would have been an unpredictable disaster.

I had just picked up a 23* and was getting pretty good with it so I grabbed it, took a big swing (f-it, right? ; ), steep angle, just went after it. Think I closed my eyes in fear of seeing my wrists snap from the club getting wrapped up.

I heard nice contact, look up, and the ball is freaking sailing high and far and onto the green. I’m sure I missed the putt but still!
