What if we had a crowd watching our ball?

I didn't watch too closely, but didn't this just happen in that Japanese tournament that Tiger won? I thought there was one day where there were no spectators on the grounds due to dangerous conditions with the flooding. It's definitely different watching that.

On an unrelated note, I went to a Pittsburgh Pirates game years ago that was a "Turn back the clock" Night. They didn't pipe music throught the speakers or have the jumbotron showing everything. I am not much of a baseball fan but I would certainly do that again.

Saw it land in the fairway or roll just into the ruff? Going to be honest when that happend i dont even count it. Unless i hook one into OB or woods or water. A perfeclty good findable shot shouldnt be penalized in my opinion. How about soaking fairways? Tilted tee boxes? Fairway, rough or greens not in good shape? I have to say sometimes i wonder would all this just shave a few strokes off if we had it like the pros but on less tougher courses of course. At least not from the black tees lol whites or blues please. Thoughts?

Well if you're gonna take it that far it would be some strokes for sure.... pure greens yeah baby. I started a thread a couple years ago about how many strokes is the pro package worth..... meaning if you gave a scratch gofler the pro life style how many strokes would it shave off their game.... no job just play golf and financial sound, practice on best facilities everyday, perfectly fit equip, top coaches, etc.... it would shave more then a few strokes ijs

oh have you seen the crappy hard bunkers I have to play out of... good luck lol

Can't figure how to like my own posts

Yes. Lets just say that you dont even get lower then a 75 with all that effort. In my mind besides having to play from the black tee boxes and occasional super fast greens i think they have better overall set up to be that good. I mean if your a decent golfer right now who got to switch to that life and practice with those courses and facilities i dont see how you cant drop at least 5 to 10 strokes. Id just like to see a pro on our courses and how we get to play. I definetly think they gain 3 to 5 strokes some rounds lol some of these guys on tour complain already on tip top courses. Can you imagine the complaints on our courses lol they havent played these types of courses in years. Maybe that makes us better then them?... maybe? No?

I play solo a lot and hit the ball pretty far. I end up losing a lot of balls that I do not think are that bad. But are in the rough that is just deep enough to hide the ball. I find it pretty frustrating when I do not think it was that bad or off the planet.

Especially if you are hitting over a hill or around a corner and cannot see it land. The pros do not even have to watch the ball.

I'd save a couple/few shots a year. LOL I'm short and straight(ish). Hard to lose too many balls when you hit it 220 in the air and it never gets more than 25 feet off the ground! Am I right @B.Helts and @isaacbm ???

same issue. play solo sometimes and hit the driver anywhere from 230 to 290... depending on strike, wind, uphill, downhill. You get the idea.

Id say i average 245 off the tee. Im not a crazy slicer or hooker(dont laugh) mainly staight(dont laugh) or fade but when your alone and you nail one(at least for me nail one) 260 270 and it just rolls into rough like you said. I feel i should be able to find it and sometimes you just dont. I personally do no count phantom missing balls like that. I do the same for my playing partners. Its one thing to put one in the water or into the woods or skips into the woods thats all on me.. but the one where you know you should find and dont nahh ill give myself a break. Not like i might not duff the next one which i do sometimes im not a pro lol but that all the more reason certain situations i belive calls for improvising on if you should take a stroke. Sometime i find what helps is knowing your average shot distance and shots you know you hit farther, average or below.. and using a range finder with shot yardage tracker. I know any driver shot im between 230 to 270 mostly so i dont take the cart past 270 unless i know i really caught it well. Usally helps find alot of balls when im out alone.

A while back here I posted about an observation I made recently. I got out on our course with nobody else out there. So, I thought I'd take my time reading puts, checking the wind, etc. I shot my lowest 9 for the year. Sunk a handful of 10-footish putts that I'd normally miss when playing at normal pace. Taking the time to read the putts like a pro gets to certainly helps. I wouldn't mind having a crowd. I'd probably find it a kick...now that I can put some heat on the ball and only chili-dip one or two shots per round.......

I've always thought about that, having a spotter(s) is HUGE in my opinion. Also what about a grandstand surrounding a green, some of those are only like 30 feet away from the edge of the green. I've seen some pro's scald it and it bounce off the stands and back onto the green. Not to mention the 'backstop' it provides, scalds would be reduced, you would get relief from the stands etc.

I just saw a euro tourney last weekend, dude hooked his drive, going way into the rough, hit a person, bounced into the fairway, unfortunately for him it had so much heat on it when it hit the fairway it rolled into a water hazard up a ways.

Yup I live in STL, the PGA Championship at Bellerive was a huge thing here. I remember them all complaining about the 'burnt' greens cuz it was so hot that year and we got zero rain.

BOO FREAKIN HOO, Bellerive (one of the nicest clubs here) had a little brown around the edge of the green.

One of the cheaper courses I play has rough 1 inch off the fairway that when your ball lands in it, it completely swallows your ball. If you are not standing directly on top of the ball you'll never find it. We play "gallery" rules where if we know your ball was in bounds but we can't find it you get a free drop in the area the the group decides the ball should be in.

Why can't you do this every round in the interest of playing better? It doesn't add much, if any time to the length of a round in a group. 90% of it can be done while other players are hitting.

This happends to me quiet a bit at most courses i play. I also play that way. How many times ive seen balls land just in the rough and cant find them once your out there looking... i know its their somewhere.. not a bad shot was hit. Also i refuse to play super rush golf. Its expensive out their enjoy your round read your shots and puts its only 10 maybe 20 seconds at most more.

I have a really bad habit of getting my putter way to close to the ball and sometimes tap it lightly. It doesn't move from it's indention, but it has clearly been touched. Sometimes I do it with my irons. I play causally 95% of the time so it's never an issue, but I'm always scared I'm going to do it in a one day tournament or a semi-serious competition

Not a problem overall. My friend takes practice swings too close and clips the ball and it goes 5 yrds lol we just roll our eyes and say just a mistake replace it where it was lol... ive done it 1 or 2 times but he does it at least 1 a round lol he also adjust his ball every shot from the fairway even if the lie is perfectly fine... another eye roll. This is xoming from a guy that shoots high 70s low 80s. That practice ball mistake though cost us a best ball tourney one time. Ended up tying chopping the 1 place money prize and playing a playoff hole for and extra $500 and trophy which we lost... thanks buddy lol.

Im sure they can handle themselves but i know they wouldnt be very happy lol. I sometimes just wonder if its the equivalent of at least a stroke dealing with the few issues tour players dont. The only think that stops that thought though is how fast their greens roll compared to ours. I played a few very fast greens and it does make a difference.
