Cleveland RTX 4 Long Term Reviews ??

Recommended Posts

When I first started to get interested in golf back in the 90’s, a friend gave me a Cleveland 53* Diadic wedge with a black finish. I fell in love with that wedge, and swear it had some magical powers that I’ve never experienced in another wedge since. It’s long gone unfortunately, but after using a set of 54 and 60 Wedgeworks raw Vokeys for the last few years, I decided (for no really good reason other than I was itching to try something different and liked the looks of them) to try the RTX 4’s. I got a 54 & 60, both mid bounce in the tour satin finish. For some reason I just haven’t been able to make a successful transition from the Vokeys to these. I’m admittedly not the best wedge player (11 index), but I just couldn’t gain any confidence with these and the turf interaction felt really different to me, for some reason. I really wanted to like them, but couldn’t get them to work for me and eventually decided to move on. I’m an i210 iron player, so I’m going to give the Glide 2.0 Stealths a try, and if those don’t work I’ll put the Vokeys back in the bag.

The 60* low bounce has been a real game changer for me. I've enjoyed the L and M in the Vokey line for a number of years, but this RTX 4 feels like a nice blend of the 2. I've hit full shots from soft fairways, hard pan, chip, pitch, flop, sand from all types of lies and it just performs flawlessly for me.

I switched from the Callaway MD4's to the Cleveland RTX4 wedges and I have completely revamped my short game. Great feel and touch with the RTX4 wedges. My wedges are the 2 dot which works great for me. I have the 50 and 56 right now. I am tempted to add a 60 for the occasional bunker shot that is in real close.

I’m trying to decide if I should go with the sm7s I was fit into at a vokey fitting or go with a setup of rtx 4s. I was fit into:

50 - F 12

54 - S 10

58 - D 12

I’m leaning towards going with the RTX since they come with the DG TIs at no upcharge.

I wonder which “raw” grinds would be the best going off my vokey fitting?

I'd go low or xlow in the 58. Then beef up the 54 as your sw.

I'm strongly considering getting rid of my cbx for an rtx4 in 58.3. Maybe 58.6 if I chicken out.

I game the 58.6 and it’s sweet. Are you thinking the full grind is necessary for the sand wedge spot or does the mid grind also work? I’ve yet to try the full. I like the 54 mid.

I was thinking of going with the 58 full cause I only use my 58 around the green and sand. Also, it’s been really soft here in Atlanta this year cause we’ve gotten soooooo much rain.

I’ve had the black RTX4 50*10 and 56*10 for about 8 months now. I freakin love them. They feel soft when you hit them center and give good feedback on miss hits. The sole design produces good turf interaction for full, pitch, and chip shots. Distance control is fantastic, they produce a ton of spin on full and chip shots too. The black finish has held up very well too, even on the face. Highly recommend them

Hit them in the bay while I was waiting for my MD3’s to get sorted in terms of lie and fell in love. Man they feel so damn good, spun the right amount, with the right launch.

Once the grooves are dead on the MD3’s it’s Hi-Toes or RTX4’s.

Finally was able to go pick up my RTX 4 wedges (my first ever Cleveland wedges), replacing some SM4s. I ordered the 56-mid and 60-low. Didn't have a lot of time, but was very excited to go try the new sticks, so went out to the local 9 hole which is a decent track for what it is and proceded to hit all 9 GIR...I think a first in my life....which means I didn't get many chances to try 'em out of course (darn the bad luck LOL). I did get to hit two chip shots with the 60 on a reachable par 5 that I hit a overdrew left of the left greenside bunker that left a tricky chip that I lofted up and over to about 7 feet as well. Also, there is one driveable par 4 that I put on the front fringe. I'd normally putt that one but I had to run through the length of the fringe for about 8 feet so hit a little chip that lipped out with the 60 as well. I can't wait to try these more. I hit a few quick chips before heading to the first tee as well and am seeing greenside spin that is only outdone by the old U-grooves, pre-rules change.

Yes, will have to give them a try. Went to the shop to check them out and the 4s look and feel fantastic. For you guys playing the raw finish, are stripping the gold coating upon purchase ?

The gold is raw.

It is raw, but I am assuming you want the bronze finish off sooner than letting it wear off naturally during play. Soak it in white vinegar. It should come off pretty easily.

Been playing these wedges for over a year. My only concern is that they will change the models before I replace these. I play the 50-54-58 in the mid bounce (as I play a variety of turfs). Can't say enough about how well they feel and spin. Mine are in the black finish and all in all, the surface treatment holds up pretty well.. usual wear in the sole and face, but that just gives them character.

Great consistency, and even with the mid bounce, have no trouble opening up the face for the flop.

Can't really compare the the vokeys, as I have never found a vokey that agrees with me.
