Upside to Fall/Winter Golf

There is always Sim golf. However, as a 12.9 HI I find it in no way mimics real golf. *rolls eyes

Less people on the course, but I can't play after work anymore. Gets dark too quickly.

When I lived where couldn't play year round (Chicago) we played on simulators, and occasionally would go out to Cog Hill, as they keep a couple courses open year round.

Best thing now, is the 'fair weather' golfers are dormant, so less time waiting. Also, since less crowded, can play 2 balls (or more a hole) for practice. And, it's not a 100+ outside.

As my grandmother used to say, can always put on enough clothes to stay warm but not so much with oppressive heat.

Frozen ponds.

In a few cases, instead of laying up short of a pond, I will just hit it right at the pond and watch it take some big bounces easily getting to the other side. My longest drive was in the winter. lol

It was 54*F today and I walked nine. No one in front of me and saw some 2 holes back. It was so serene. I also played two balls to work on the game on some holes, mainly to get a better feel for the irons, my goal this year. Just a very pleasant day on the course that put a big smile on my face.

Haha. I remember playing one winter at a local course when some of the exposed greens were frozen. My mate hit an unusually good approach shot that landed on the green then promptly bounced off, over a bush and into the car park. Longest PW he ever hit and both of us thought it was hilarious.

Yeah, those frozen greens can turn a really good shot into a really bad one right quick. lol

Played today in 35 degree weather. It's been raining for a few days too so the course was quite soggy. I knew it'd be empty, but it was a complete ghost town. I didn't see another person on the course or even on the range before my round, at the turn, or when I was done. Played in 2 hours and five minutes. Played a second ball at times and put a little extra time in around the greens. It was quite peaceful to not be rushed or feel like I was rushing anyone ahead of me. I live near DC and everything around here is always go go go. It was a nice change of pace to the norm and my most enjoyable (and productive) round in a while.

Sometimes it can feel a bit eerie being the only one on the entire course...cool though.

If it is under 40 degrees, it is too cold to play in my opinion.

'Millionaire's golf', lol. I wish we'd only had 'a little rain recently'. I think we've had the wettest autumn in several years and winter looks to be shaping up the same way. The courses around here are all suffering.

Our Fall hasn't been so hot either. Already have had three snow falls. Golf season seems to be getting shorter and shorter. Really good weather golf is maybe 6-7 months. Fortunately, I play in all kinds of conditions, lol.

I live in SW Michigan, and I played three times this week. It’s been a pretty unusual weather week for sure. My wife even allowed me to sneak out on Christmas Day, after all of the parties for a quick 9! I was the only one out there, and I missed one particular GIR, because the ball bounced about 6 feet in the air off the frozen portion of the green...
