TaylorMade M4 vs. M6 fairway wood?

Anyone tested/played both of these fairway woods?

Any significant differences?

I played the M4 for a few months then went with the M6. TO ME the M6 is more forgiving, I can't compare distance because I had the 15* in the M4 and have the Rocket 14* in the M6.

 

I was also pleasantly surprised with the Atmos Orange shaft. First time in a while I've played a stock OEM offering. Feels really smooth and anywhere close to a good swing the ball stays on the path intended.

Didn't like either due to the fact that when soled they both closed shut on me which is a big no no.

Playability of both heads is very similar. The M6 has twist face which made it more accurate for me over both the M2 and M4.

Haven't tried the M6 only because I cant find any faults with my M4.

The only fairway wood I've used in recent years that was at all consistent or reliable for me was an M4 5-wood with the stock Atmos shaft. After playing without a fairway wood for a while then trying TItleist and Callaway alternatives, I'm ready to go back to the last thing that actually was playable.

Trouble is, it is next to impossible to find other than 3-woods or the occasional 3HL in used lefty M4 fairways. Either they never sold many of the 18-degree or else the people who bought them never get rid.

I can find decent prices on the equivalent M6. Looks like a slightly bigger or deeper clubhead and it's now an Atmos Orange rather than Atmos Black shaft. Also I guess they do the Twist Face now. Is there any chance I'll find that an M6 5-wood plays like the M4 5-wood I never should have traded away?

I have a lefty m6 with a real deal rombax p-95 that I may part with. It’s really close to my driver

M4 has given me numerous eagle putts. Thinking about getting a M4 5 now because it is so good. Two rounds I only had a 3 wood in the bag while my driver was getting worked on. It is money. It’s keeping me from getting the Sim 3 wood.

Had both but couldn't stand the way they looked at address. They both sat closed and looked like they wanted to go left.

Do you mean closed when you place the sole on the ground? I do not sole my clubs before taking my grip and aiming the face so my M4 fairway never looked closed to me.

My M4 HL 3 wood doesn't look closed at all at address.

Yes, closed when soled. Felt like I had to manipulate the head to square it.

The M6 definitely sits closed. I finally gave up on mine a couple weeks ago in favor of a higher-launching and more square-looking AeroBurner.

If you don't mind a little bit of draw-bias, then it's alright. For instance, Callaway puts a bit of draw-bias in their standard fairways as well. Most OEMs make the standard model sit a little closed to help add loft (when it's square) and then make the low-spin option (e.g. Sub-Zero, LST, etc.) sit slightly open or at least square.

One thing I'd say about the M6 is that they are fairly low-spin so definitely do not make the mistake of getting one that is too strong. Keep in mind that most of today's 3-woods are really large and thus have deeper faces than you think. The result is that we strike the ball lower on the face which results in clubs people often perceive as low-launching. For this reason, most folks are better suited to a fairway in the 16-18* range which produces more acceptable results regardless of how it's struck. Anything at 14-15 is limited to tee shots and low burners off the deck (unless you have a particularly high ball-flight).

I've only play the M4 for about 5 rounds now and its plenty long. The only problem I have with it is as soon as you ground the club the face shuts. I would prefer a more square look at address but it works for now.

Where can I find a M4 3 wood?
