Butter irons?

Few of my favourites are Callaway Legacy Black's Stenson model, Epon 302's, Adams MB2's, 2011 On/Off forged, Mizuno MP5's and MP 60's. The Stenson's are at the top of my list though. New to me 2019 Apex Pro Dot's are climbing the list.

I had one round with them today. Shot a 75 in some light mini tournament at my home club. They felt and sounded NOTICEABLY soft. I write that in all caps because it was black and white how soft they felt in relation to other one piece forgings (blade or player cb). Sound as well. I haven't bent them yet but @joey3108 has and said they are very soft "like the 2013 x forged soft" he said. That and you can see the mass behind the sweet spot. That must be translating in that solid feeling and sound.

There are small emblems in the cavity like the 13 x forged that must of help them tune the acoustics as well. I was just playing the JDM Bridgestone Tour B X-BL combo one piece forged irons. They are butter balls and these feel NOTICEABLY softer feeling and the muted sound more of a thud than a thump you can notice with ease. Showed up on the range, pulled the 7 iron and first hit was telling. Hit another and the same thing. Right through the set to same thud and soft solid feel. Just lovely.

The sole widths are a carbon copy of the 2013 x forged, and the newer AP2's. Wider than the JPX 900 tour. Same sole camber as the 13 x forged and not as much of a killed leading edge. Sharper.

The heel to toe lengths are a fraction shorter than the AP2's and the same as the 13 x forged. However the muscle in the cavity on these Apex Pro 19 dot irons are the biggest differences I see between the two Callaway sets. Softest feeling head I have felt in a long while.

Cobra Fly-Z Forged and Mizuno Mp-53 are soft and forgiving.

1971-72 Wilson Staff Dynapower "Buttonback" irons with original Ultralite shafts in flex of choice are true buttery butterness. Wilson Staff Fg17 irons are actually made of butter. Fg59's are so buttery you'll slip right out of your stance and fall flat on the butter covered t-box. Your new Nike shirt will be all stained with the excessive butter. Your wife will wonder why you've come home after your round all greasy and covered with butter. She'll understand when you tell her you've been playing with old Staff blades....

Mizuno are always great. Yonex are soft too, especially with the insert.

If you haven’t hit a raw Kyoei forging , you haven’t hit the softest. Look for Vega or Yururi brands for their most known irons. You can’t imagine how soft. You have to hit them to believe it.

How do you find your Blueprints off the face compared to some of the better JDM or Mizuno forgings?

They are quite similar to the solid Miura feel. But in my opinion neither miura nor blueprint is soft.

 

i was spoiled on a raw set of Vega early. Then another raw set of vdc-01 Vegas. When hit middle it feels like a Balata ball hit with a pillow. Not kidding.

I agree re: Miura feel. Very dense and powerful feeling. Extremely addicting and satisfying but not at all similar to the marshmallow feeling you get with something like the MP20. I'm not sure which I prefer to be honest...

I actually prefer dense to butter. More Miura less Mizuno. Like Titleist's and Hogan's too. Love a bit of "rifle crack" to impact. Mac-Cobra's have that in spades, so do older Hogan's. Think highly of Endo made clubs too. 99 Apex, VR Pro's & FG 59 are all exceptional feeling clubs. I'm a big fan of dowel embedded irons. 681's probably last OEM offering to have them, rate very high with me. I'm re-shafting several sets this winter, they will all get hickory dowels even the TP 2000's which are TN87's with champagne chrome finish. Guess I'll get dense butter then, lol.

The Bridgestone Tour B X-CB are the best feeling irons I have ever played with the chunk of mass directly behind the sweet spot. My old Mizuno MP 64s would be the runner up.

Miuras (cb57) paired with a modus shaft=pure butter. Its a soft feeling head that produces a solid thud at impact.

You have a good eye for irons Balls Deep. I had a look at those as well after reading Easyyy's description, they do look fantastic.

USDM: Callaway (although admittedly, I haven't tried a lot of USDM)

X Forged 13 and Nike VR pro combos are the softest i have hit. Was shocked by the nikes as I was expecting nothing special and was blown away by the feel of them. Have had a few Mizuno's, mp64 being my favourite but not overly soft for me.

Mizuno is a Japanese company. Epon is just Endo's house brand, they provide forgings to many other OEMs.

MP4s are soft but also have ‘feel’ - you know exactly where the ball is going at impact. My Mac MT Pro-Cs are softer but not necessarily better butter.

I've never been able to detect these differences in softness that ohers talk about. No matter what irons I'm playing they feel good when I hit them out of the middle, and kind of crappy when I don't.
