Miura versus Epon

Anyone have any overall comparison? Imagine what matters is comparing certain models (and having your shafts/set up correct).

 

I played blades for 35 years...then moved to my first forged cavity back 3 years ago, Mizuno MP 25. I love my Miura wedges.

 

Thinking about a new set of irons (forged cavity back) and had been considering Miura (1008, do continued) and thought I'd consider the Epon Tour CB.

I loved the performance of my Epon Tour CBs but couldn't get used to the bulky head and too much offset, slight too wide of sole. I switched to Miura small blades and noticed the often stated solid louder sound of miura. I love the weight of my Miura set, just wish the sole had a little more bounce and with the blunted leading edge of the Epon.

I'd recommend seeing the whole set and hitting as many of them as possible before a pricey investment.

EPON have HUGE gooseneck/offset in all of their irons PERIOD.

the only set that isn't a shovel is the ORIGINAL af tour . even the 302 is big , I cud never get on with them, loved the design and feel but the head was a hookmachine.

 

The newer EPONS look like roller coaster in the neck, I almost threw up day glow looking at them in horror at what they did to a set of supposed MB.

 

miura arnt much better in the soring irons either . plus they are very square. of course if u like that shape, go it.

as for feel theres a difference, miura are a more dense solid feel and epon are as soft as they come by a mile.

look at the mizuno and prgr range from a cpl of yrs ago, tr500 and IDBL especially if u want less offset than both above.

 

or old Yamaha tour models form 2008/2011

Yes agree a lot of Miura (MG) and Epon irons have the 80s Japanese shovel look in the pw. It supposedly helps control trajectory better (hands ahead of ball).

 

Their designers must be that old.

Miura's blades are soft but solid buttery feel. Epon doesnt do blades for LH so cannot compare but the af302 is soft but not as butter as miura blades.

Yes epon does have a lot more offset compared to miura blades but not as much if compared to other cbs.

I don’t find Miuras soft. They feel great — a dense feeling and powerful — while Epons are much more of a soft feeling. The Epon AF Tour and Tour CB’s have the least offset of the Epon heads and they blend it really well. Great irons. More forgiving than Miuras IMO. My favorite Miura is the CB57. One of the great cavity back irons. I don’t really prefer one over the other, they’re a very different feel.

Miuras are a more solid/dense feel. I have a set of cb1008 heads I’m looking to unload. If you have any interest shoot me a DM.

If you’re able to hit them first I would recommend it.

If you’re offset sensitive Miura may be better. It’s not nearly as bad as Tsupo says but it’s there. I actually prefer the larger head size on a forged cavity back.

 

As far as feel goes; I honestly believe feel is mistaken for sound of impact most of the time. It is more related to the ball compression you use. Range rock vs. Wilson Duo kind of thing.

Always wanted to like JDM forgings but the more I experimented the more I noticed frequently too much offset in the designs (my opinion). Wider soles too, hard to change after looking at a Titleist box toe blade or something like that.

I found cb miuras to be very soft compared to similar cb epons.

Other than the grind, theres little difference, IMO. Miura heads are forged by Endo and Epon is Endo's house brand. The difference is Miura's grinding and whether or not you believe in the Miura brand image.

Are you sure about Miura heads being forged by Endo?

This is mistaken. Miura has a proud history of forging its irons and the two companies have different processes. Epon is the Endo house brand and produces heads for other OEMs, but not for Miura.

LOL yeah cheap effort to discount the Miura brand. Forging isn't some lost art, but they do it themselves, and can quality control the process themselves. Japanese products have always been great because their quality standards are much tighter than anywhere else in the world. Of course, it doesn't mean you'll play better or worse, but their stuff is going to be closer weight, loft wise compared to say the american clubs forged in China and assembled in Thailand.

I describe them as super smooth and precise.

The blades 001, tourney, 101 etc are beautiful.

The steel they use to use and the smooth finish they used to give them . Was down right perfect.

I’m reminded of the quote “If you came up against god with a hatori hanzo blade. Then god would be cut!” (Or something like that.) that’s my description of Miura blades.

Honestly, I have tried miruas, epons, but would recommend you give your current mizuno mp25s a shot as well! I sold mine a few yrs back and have always regretted it - moved on to a set of Epon personals then Miura MBs. Between the 2, the Epons are sexier but have a soft spot for Miura due to the buttery feel. Really need to hold them and try them to see which you prefer.

Years back I was fixated on getting a set of Miuras. Fitter hands me an Epon 502 iron and I was blown away. For me it was night/day difference with Miuras having very little feel for me while the Epons were beyond soft.

Longest I’ve ever stayed with a set of irons because they were just that accurate both in terms of dispersion and distance. Just recently bought a set of black 705’s and also love em.

it’s a personal choice. You need to hit each one side by side.
