mizzy+main execs are high-fiving each other regardless of the public's perceived "loss" on this. how many millions did they drop on the philly mick commercial? no one looks at the marketing bill immediately afterwards and says "that was a terrible idea." and that's what this was. a coordinated, limited offering marketing ploy with a max-number of "free" shirts they sell. how many web hits/new customers/email addresses did they gain? likely viewed as a net-win in their minds.

I have honestly thought about joining just to support them. Even if none of the benefits interest me. I enjoy their content and am sure they have given me more than $90 worth of entertainment throughout the years. I understand the need to raise money outside of sponsors. I'm sure those relationships come with more responsibilities than we realize and can pull them away from doing more projects. I am sure everything has to be pre-approved by Callaway & BMW as well.

 

Although, I still can't wrap my head around how they make enough money to support 5 of them doing this full time without other sources of income. It all comes back to the trust fund.

I just learned about "Brown Friday" for the first time. Apparently the day after Thanksgiving is the busiest of the year for plumbers. We had a "plunger" search where I was, and I was NOT involved.

Anybody started reading up on the new handicap stuff? I was curious to know how the daily condition rating would work. Is it going to be based on weather data? Or someone at the course making an arbitrary decision? Etc. It's based on the combination of scores posted. If all the scores are pretty high or pretty low they'll apply a adjustment. I'd like to see how the math actually works. I hope we don't have to "trust" any of it.

 

That said i really don't care about my handicap very much any more. I don't play in much net stuff. My handicap tends to lag way behind my game (in comparison to people who play more) and I tend to get hot a couple rounds in the year which drags it down below where it "should" be*

 

*The new MSGA app shows average strokes over par in addition to handicap. I finished at 3.4 handicap and 7.6 average strokes over par. I looked up two guys who I think of as more steady than me. One is 3.3 and 6.4 averages strokes over par. He plays the whites a lot more than me. The other guy finished at 3.9 and 7.2 average strokes over par. I'd think his breakdown between blues and whites is quite similar to me since we play a lot. That's kinda proof. He shoots better scores and has a higher handicap.

I have not looked into it too much. It would be easy to get from the data. I wonder about sample size issues on low-traffic days.

 

Like if I'm the only guy who posted a score on a day, will they assigned the DSR based solely on what I do out there? Would they assume I shot my average? My handicap? Is there a limit on how far it "stretches". . .for instance, if I'm the only person who posts a score on day and I shoot 69, does the system put that in as a average, like, "oh I guess the course was playing easy" or would they only adjust the course rating so far. . .like, "well, he's the only one who posted a score, but we're only going to allow the DSR to go as low as 70."

My inlaws got me a dozen Wilson Duo for a birthday present recently. ("The gift receipt from Wal-Mart is inside the box!") And they're fine, its a good ball for my hcp level and its not great scoring conditions anyway. I was playing Top Flite Gamers in the offseason and they were fine as well.

I play #17 Seaside Saturday and hit one Duo OB Right, and then retee and hit another one into the right rough. I lose that one as well in the leaves, and we play a one stroke penalty "leaf rule" in the offseason (take one stroke penalty and drop where you think it was) so I end up taking the triple bogey max in our game. Fuming over the loss of two $1.50 golf balls, I hit a good drive on #18 but in the right rough. The rough is a little thick, but I find mine, and find TWO other minty fresh TP5X, one with a cool American flag logo all over. Couple that with a ProV1 I found on #16 Seaside and I was up 1 ball and approx $9 in value. #Blessed
