One in a lifetime golf in Monterey Area

Hello,

 

Next week Monday-Wednesday I will be in San Fran for a one time trip where I have no expenses. Because of this I am taking full advantage and getting to golf. I am golfing at Half Moon Bay Tuesday, which will give me two coasts in two months (Kiawah Island Ocean Course in October).

 

That said things have been very good lately and I was thinking about having a once in a lifetime golf round. Since this is my third time to San Fran this year I have no interest in traveling back any time soon. What are the courses to choose from to play? Obviously there is Pebble, Cypress and Spyglass, but also interested in Pasatiempo. What courses are you actually able to get tee times at without staying/other fees?

Forget Cypress unless you know a member. Call Pebble to see if you can get a time at Spyglass or Pebble. Usually Pebble is the day before but sometimes you can reserve earlier if the tee sheet isn't too crowded.

Obviously Cypress or Pebble if you can get on. After that, Pasatiempo is much closer to the must play category than Spyglass or any other public course. And, IMHO, it's not even close.

really Pasa over Spyglass. What is the reasoning? I am not great with course selection I just know the great views. I read that you get can onto pebble the day of without having ot stay. I am a single playing the day before thanksgiving so I am going to give it a try.

I agree with this order. Poppy hills is decent and cheaper. So is Pacific Grove.

Love Poppy Hills and still need to play PG. Would have suggested those but the OP said money is no expense haha.

With regards to MPCC and Cypress. Lets say the OP was willing to shell out big $$ to play those courses and hired a local caddy as well. Would they still deny him without knowing a member? I'm curious.

You can get mpcc on charity auction sites for a large donation. Cypress you will not.

Kind of similar to Olympic Club. I really want to play the Lake Course but usually you have to shell out some big bucks via a charity event.

For me, it was the chance to play an Alister MacKenzie golf course, plain and simple. The green complexes and bunkering, along with rolling fairways, make this one of the most interesting courses I've ever played. I don't get many chances to play a course where it really matters which side of the fairway you hit your ball like Pasatiempo does. Then you add the history to it and it is simply a very fun course to play.

Spyglass is definitely a good course and I get the love for it. But there was simply nothing about the course that made me want to play it again. And, in fact, on our second trip to play Pebble, we chose not to play Spyglass or Spanish Bay.

I would play Pebble or Pasatiempo. I played both as a single (Pasatiempo actually twice), and would prob split 10 rounds there 7-3 if money wasn't a consideration. I liked Spyglass (and played Poppy pre-reno). However I loved Pebble and Pasatiempo.

You can call and book Pebble 24 hours in advance without staying on property, and as a single this shouldn't be a problem. I was the 2nd group off, and this was a few days after the AT&T.

Thats the plan. I called them the other day and they said yes call us 7am the day before and you should be alright.
