Doonbeg or Dooks?????

I have one round left to book for my Ireland trip next year. Would you play Doonbeg or Dooks?

Dooks looks far more interesting and most seem to genuinely love the course and the club.

2 rounds each at Lahinch, Ballybunion, Tralee.

If you have a political stance, then Dooks. If you don't it is a coin flip. I rate Doonbeg a little higher for 100% links golf and links design - big grass mounds, etc. Dooks does not have as dramatic mounding, etc. But has a unique feel with some wonderful shots and views.

Thank for the comment. It’s all about the golf for me. I keep politics out of golf and sports. Were all golfers....

That'll be awesome. Having just played Lahinch in September I can tell you that the second round there will be even more enjoyable. It's a wonderful place. I can't wait to get back.

Doonbeg has much more dramatic scenery, taller dunes. I played it years ago, when the crubhouse was in temporary buildings, but I'm sure that now its a grand affair. Even then, Doonbeg was the most expensive course we played, much more than Ballybunion or Lahinch, and probably triple the price of Dooks. Its not quite so dear these days, from what I can read. Dooks is more subdued, smaller clubhouse, a more "native" feel, yet still a very good golf course. It might depend most on where you plan to stay and where the open day fits into that schedule. If you're looking at an open day while staying north of the Shannon, play Doonbeg, if south of the Shannon, play Dooks. Or if you're south of the Shannon, play Waterville instead.

Doonbeg. It was designed by Greg Norman and there is a painting of him inside. Awesome awesome golf course.

You wont regret playing at Dooks - it's special.

Having said that, if Waterville is on the radar I would take that option - it is a beautiful place.

I haven't played Dooks, but played Doonbeg this June and was pleasantly surprised how playable the whispy rough is. It was a tough windy day there (as many are), but with generous fairways the wind is accounted for as much as one can hope. Martin Hawtree recently softened the course again, as I was told it had been previously. Grounds are very nice as with all Trump properties as he spends money.

I've played both and would play Doonbeg over Dooks.

I’ve played both and would definitely play Dooks over Doonbeg.

Doonbeg’s greens were not up to the same quality as Dooks. Views at both courses were spectacular.

I'd play Waterville over both in a heart beat no question!

As others have chimed in, my experience would suggest Waterville is a better choice than Dooks or Doonbeg. The town also have a cool walk along the waterfront if you have the time.
