Golf mat and hitting net

The net needs to be strong enough to stop a golf ball, but that's about all the needed criteria. The mat is the critical component. You absolutely, without question, need to buy the best mat you can afford. I have a driving range in my barn, and when I first put it together, I bought a cheap mat. Tendonitis in both elbows and one shoulder was the result. I bought a DW Quail mat, it has lasted for years, and I have had no problems with my joints. There are a lot of good mats out there, buy one and you'll be happy in the end.

Which DW Quail mat did you buy? Yes, my greatest concern is introducing injury.

I have a fiberbuilt one and it's pretty good. Costco have some really good deals on golf mats. This one and the CCE one last time I looked.

I bought a Rukket Pro net last year and it works great. It did get a weathered and started to fray at end of season but after contacting them it was replaced in two days so outstanding customer service. For a mat, I was between Fiberbuilt and Country Club Elite. Ended up with the later as I found a good deal on Ebay, very happy with it.

They have changed their line a little, the one I bought was just under the full bore commercial mat. 4x4, has holes punched, I rotate it from time to time, has lasted 10 yrs, although indoors, and very little signs of wear except where I stand.

Spornia net has been good for me but you can’t leave it out in the rain and I’ve been too lazy to take 1 min each time to collapse it and put it away.

net return has great review but is also expensive. There are a lot of DYI nets made from PVC pipe ect. some can be made at better quality than what you can buy and of course custom as well, if you are handy. For kids his age with ball speed low any net would work for now. We have the PowerNet from amazon as I've used their products when my daughter played softball. can't complain, again with low ball speeds not going to matter, as swing speed and ball speed gets up I would probably get something better.

Mats lots of options. Net return makes a huge mat that 50 pounds and been told its great also great with that mat because it hits the mat and return to you so in theory you only need one ball to practice. Others have said country club elite. But I would get a square mat. 4x4 5x5 that way you can rotate the mat to get extra life out of it. I had a cheap one given to us and its worn down where I need another one as well. No issues with injury's but just falling apart.

Just bought a few weeks ago.

Country Club Elite/real feel good mats - got the 20”x36” combo- has two mats . Very portable to take inside and out. Excellent mats. We also take to our local range - which the mats there are aweful.

This is how I got mine but they gave it to me if I'd haul it away. Those range mats weigh a friggin' ton.

There's definitely something more important that I should be doing.

NetReturn for sure. Most of us spend massive amounts on the latest new clubs. The NetReturn pro package is probably the best golf related purchase I've ever made. I was very happy with the mat that it came with. I used foam gym floor tiles to build a base level for extra shock absorption and had the set-up in my basement when I lived up north.

FWIW, I did not care for the Country Club Elite mat. I found it to be too thick/plush.

I ended up getting this net off eBay for $50 for my 9YO junior. Works fine. Quality seems fine. Looks very much like the Rakkuten (spelling?) net for 1/3 the price.https://m.ebay.com/itm/10-X-7-Easy-Detachable-Golf-Net-Driving-Training-Practice-Large-Hitting-Area/273781796057

I built a DIY mat. I used off-the-shelf pre-cut 4'x4' plywood, with a hard foam 1" core in the middle, and a cheap eBay 4x4' mat on top, using spray glue to sandwich it all.. But the insert where I strike the ball, I sized for a Fiberbuilt insert (expensive piece, but it does allow a better strike), and I'll also make the same size for a DIY gel insert, that way I have a few choices of hitting surface that are kind to my elbows. It's working well, and allows me to hit down a bit into the ball. I've been hitting plastic balls, but hope to add a net as well.
