There is a massive thread out there that covers this stuff in a lot of detail. In summary, Galvin Green is pretty good, but there is better out there for the money. Personally I bought Kjus and couldn't be happier with it. I have some zero restriction and galvin green, but would wear the Kjus first and foremost. It's not cheap though.

I've worn Zero Restriction rain gear for years with good results. Also Sunice makes good rain gear too. Both can be found for decent prices. Kjus and Galvin Green are more difficult to find good deals. Easy to spend near $1000 for jacket and pants pair. Kjus was recently purchased by Acushnet (Dryjoy) and historically they have been firm on pricing of their products.

Dive into that thread mentioned above. It’s a treasure trove. An example of the best this board has to offer, incredible expert insight. After digesting it all I wound up buying ProQuip PX6 for less than $300 from Golf Support. Worked well in Bandon but I didn’t have horrific weather, only about 6 holes of very heavy rain.

They got directed by proquip to stop so they dont compete with proquip usa. If you are looking for some very lightweight waterproofs that work well, the ping zero gravity is currently 40-50% off on several sites

Golfbase still ships Proquip to the US. I've bought a bunch of stuff from them. They currently have the PX6 jacket for $225. They don't have the PX6 pants. But, they do have the PX5 pants, which just appear to be last year's top of the line model for $140. I have both and wouldn't hesitate to buy PX5's instead of PX6's.

However, Proquip USA is currently having a black friday sale where everything is 35% off (code FRIDAY35 at checkout). At ProquipUSA, the PX5 pants are currently being closed out at $180 (limited sizes). With the 35% off, that comes to $117.

You're going to love them. The first time that I used mine, I played in a torrential rainstorm wearing them (they closed the course after my 9th hole because the greens were under water). I was bone dry under my rain gear. It was a great test for my Nike Lunar Vapor Storm shoes as well (which also passed with flying colors).

I was playing in a Mizuno Impermalite jacket until I won a Galvin Green Ashton in a raffle. The GG is great for rain in moderate temps. The membrane is on the outside, there is no lining and it is incredibly light weight. The rain beads up and rolls right off. It is expensive, but having worn it, I would buy another one if I ever need to replace it.

As the temps cool I may go back to the Mizuno or I might just layer with the GG. In moderate temperatures I wear Eddie Bauer DWR pants unless it is really pouring. Colder weather or hard rain, and I wear Nike Storm Force pants. There are more stylish and better fitting options, but I bought these on the cheap and they are good at keeping the wet out.

the Kjus fr exceeded mt expectations. bought it for a trip to Ireland and we played through 30-40 mph winds and rain. it eventually wetted out but I never got wet. the membrane held up wonderfully. the stretch performance is what separates it from most of its competition, to me.

  • 1 month later...

I played Bandon December 2018 in ProQuip PX6 pants and a NorthFace DryVent jacket circa 2017/2018 vintage.

Both did fine in gale winds and on/off rain at OleMac on our first day. Stayed dry the whole time. But cold due to poor layering choices! Both failed miserably two days later in steady to torrential rain/wind at Pacific. I may have left pockets or zips open on both at times which added to the failure, but everyone in my group was soaked that day at the end of the round.

My Nike’s (lunar command 2) were wetting through by the third fairway. Pants by the green. Jacket by the fifth.

FWIW I’ve since re-tested the PX6 pants dog-walking in heavy rain. They should be fine with zips sealed. I got mine for $100 from golfsupport.com. Sent the PX6 jacket back, as the branding was wayyy too over the top, and I was a bit vain about paying $225 for that jacket after the pics didn’t adequately show all the ho’d out logos.

The North Face was a pleasure to swing in. Stretchy as hell, hood was helpful and didn’t get in the way much, and was reasonably waterproof. It already has one hole in it from a bramble, though, long term durability seems dubious. It’s similar to Paclite, I’d guess.

I’m going back with the same pants, Lunar Vaporstorms and a GG Alfred in March. Will pack the NF as a backup jacket. Keeping an eye out on EBay for a decent set of backup pants from GG, KJUS, etc. Got the GG Alfred for $150 shipped new with tags on.

Thanks to the best girlfriend ever, I got a PX6 jacket and accompanying pants and have tested them in a decent rain and couldn't be happier. Absolutely no restriction with the swing. They'll be making the trip to England and Scotland in May. Kingsbarns here I come.

The brand's golf equipment is designed with superior quality materials. This is done to ensure that all golf courses around the world have equipment of this utmost quality. This is why golf courses around the world have begun to use Gavin green golf equipment. The kit provides both excellent value for money and long-lasting performance. I bought it for a very affordable price, and I think it's the best brand to use for gold games. Also, it's very comfortable and allows me to play freely with my friends.
