Memphis, TN Private Clubs (Under 40)

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum, but I will be relocating to Memphis from Dallas for work this summer. Does anyone have any info on Associate Memberships (under 40) in the area? We’ll be living in East Memphis or possibly even Olive Branch, MS. I’ve caddied out at Wyndyke and Southwind during my junior golf days, but am looking for a nice (affordable) club with a healthy membership to play a quality golf course, meet new friends for my soon to be wife and I, and enjoy the occasional club mixer.

Anybody got any info on Spring Creek Ranch?

Thanks for the link, but I think the OP of that post and I are asking two different questions. Again, I’m asking for WRX’er opinions of private clubs in the Memphis area. That post is more about wanting to get on a private club. Any Memphinians out there? Thanks!

Memphis CC has a solid course. Not too long, but a classic Donald Ross design. I'm not a member, but when I visit my parents in Arlington I usually stop by to play. Seems like it's stable. Wouldn't be too far from OB or East Memphis. I think the best one though is Windyke CC.

What makes Windyke stand out? Purely golf, or the club, or a mixture. I really like the idea of Spring Creek Ranch, but dues are literally double those of Windyke.

I thought memphis country club was uber private and all old money?

I'm a life long resident of Shelby County, TN. I've been a member of two clubs in the area.

I'm pretty sure you'll find opportunity in junior memberships just about anywhere. The key will be finding the course you'll enjoy playing most of your golf at and still provide the wife to be with some benefits from your membership. With that in mind you should probably focus on four clubs; Colonial, Windyke, Spring Creek, and Southwind. You are already familiar with Windyke and Southwind based on your initial post. With the possible exception of Spring Creek (which the last time I heard was still a "by invitation only" club) you will not have any trouble getting a nice tour and round of golf at any of these clubs simply by calling up and expressing an interest.

Only Windyke in the four I've recommended is a two course (technically three if you count the executive, par 3 course) club. I was a member there for nearly four years and would still be there if I wasn't relocating to Alabama. Two solid courses with ownership that has put money back into the properties in earnest in the past few years. There's tennis and swimming as well.

Colonial closed it's North course leaving only the South still standing. It's a very difficult course in my opinion and I still can't believe Al Geiberger shot 59 there with persimmon woods, blade irons, and a golf ball that probably wasn't even round. Hands down the best of the 59s! Very active social group there along with tennis and swimming in the summer.

Remember - "we need the dues" is pretty much the theme in Memphis private club golf at the moment excluding Memphis CC and Spring Creek.

Spring Creek is an outstanding course, period. It wouldn't hurt to call and make inquires, but the "by invitaiton only" thing may not be to your advantage unless you just know someone.

It is. I use connections in the golf industry. My clubs closed in the summer anyways, so occasionally some will come to visit Jupiter area in the winter. Professional courtesy.

I just really enjoyed playing there, usually played well also played it for qualifiers to FedEx and US Open sectionals. The Par 3 is fun too. I just always had a good time playing it

check out ridgeway country club. Its got everything you need. 3 different chipping greens, beautiful range, fantastic course (hosts us open sectional every year). I've been a member for a year and love it. Pm me and I can have you out one day.

As for others courses here are mine reviews.

Tpc- corporate membership. Not a good vibe but solid course.

Chickasaw- no driving range and a little funky layout but in a great location. Lots of young members. Could be right up your alley if you don't care to have a driving range.

Wyndyke- over 700 members..two courses. A players course on decent tracks but not my style as far as a county club goes. Way too many people.

MCC- you won't be able to join.

Spring creek-700 a month even for your age. Location probably too far from where you want to live.

Colonial- great layout and very difficult course but not very many young players. Kind of a dying club. They are hurting financially and just have some donors keeping it a float who love the track.

Memphis national- 2 tracks but lower quality. Not much of a clubhouse and not very many good golfers there. It's cheap like wyndyke.

Might be missing some but that's what I checked out when I was looking. Don't hesitate to reach out.

Thanks for the info! We’re still in the early stages of relocating now, but I’d love to give ridgeway a shot. I will look you up when the time comes. Thanks my friend!

I'm in the same boat (26 year old male), so have been reaching out to these clubs and looking into a lot of the options discussed above. Below are details for junior memberships if anyone is interested:

  1. Germantown CC - $250 initiation, $266 monthly dues, $180 quarterly food/beverage minimum
  2. Windyke - $185 monthly dues
  3. Colonial CC - $275 monthly dues, $85 monthly food/beverage minimum
  4. TPC Southwind - $3,000 initiation, $390 monthly dues, $150 quarterly food/beverage minimum
  5. Spring Creek Ranch - $365.63 monthly dues, $300 quarterly food/beverage minimum
  6. Ridgeway CC - $1,000 initiation, $421 monthly dues, $100 monthly food/beverage minimum

I haven't visited or taken a tour of any, but it seems like Germantown CC might be the best value.

Spring Creek has a hefty initiation fee in the range of TPC Sountwind.

Sorry for the old thread revival, but does anyone have a rough idea about dues for folks above 40 for these courses? Also, hat if you’re married? Do they go off the age of the younger spouse? That seems to be the rule for all the courses I’ve looked at. And what about SCR...still invite only? Thanks in advance.
