Cobra SpeedZone driver, SpeedZone Xtreme driver (in-hand photos)

I've never used a Cobra driver but this one has my interest. If the price point stays at $450 I will be very very interested.

Club looks awesome especially in the matte black and white. I saw the stock shaft options and it said there’s 20+ free upgrade shafts through custom building. Anyone know what those 20 will be? Think they’ll be the same free upgrades that were available in the F9?

This is really a cool driver. I think the Infinity face is a nice idea and just like the overall look. After being wowed by the F9 fairways — I’ve gamed Cobra irons, but the F9 was the first Cobra fairway that ever made it into my bag — I am eager to take this one for a test drive.

Yeah I'll be waiting for TXG's review myself. While I'm not super shocked by this outcome, TXG does much more thorough reviews IMO. From the numbers I was seeing from Cobra wrt to MOI and whatnot, I was sort of surprised with the new carbon head tech, that MOI wasn't higher. I mentioned in another thread but I believe my Epic SZ has more MOI than the SpeedZone does with the weight in the rear.

 

Alex Etches from Golfbox has a review up and said he's putting it in the bag, so that shows you right there how it's entirely personal. I wonder if Rick has to give the club back?? Like... if you're sent a driver and it's free and it's also at least not worse than what you have now... why would you not bag it? He's already used it so it's not like he can go sell it on eBay for full price come next year.

At my peak speeds I'm more similar to where Alex Etches from Golfbox is right now and from a distance POV, I don't think the Cobra is worth upgrading over my Epic, because I'm getting 1.5 smash on trackman with it and it seems to do well on my miss hits. I'm starting to really wonder how getting fit really works these days because there is such little in it anymore. Maybe the Cobra will provide me slightly better results on miss hits, but how can I really tell from 20 or 30 balls on Trackman? You need many rounds of golf to start to see the differences but that means I'd have to be willing to buy a driver for $500+ that on paper isn't really any better than what I already use.

I Think he's hurt though? His speed was about 120 in this most recent speedzone vid. He's normally 130ish.

I don't remember ever seeing him in the 130s. It seems he is usually around the low 120s... I could be wrong though.

Well, I saw him in the 130's because right after this speedzone video I went back and rewatched his video on the OG Epic. He was 130 mph, getting the ball out to 350 yards on average. I did this to compare the smash factor between the two. clearly he left some on the table still with Epic, unless the speed reading was way off. His ball speed was 182 with Epic.

Gotcha. I am going to guess the speed reading was off. 182 ball speed at 130 mile per hour club head speed is pretty bad. I think he makes better contact than that. I get right around 180'ish give or take ball speeds and I am around 122-123.

Yeah he should be looking at high 180's to low 190's with 130 mph club speed and any efficiency between 1.4-1.45

I really like the look of the face extending onto the crown. Really wanted to get the F9 last year but I know myself too well and saw the sky marks / paint chips happening. Will definitely be testing out the white/matte color scheme on this!

Not only does it protect the topline, but with the extended face, if you do sky one it will go even higher into the air. Many golfers will be reaching new levels of the stratosphere with their tee shots.

Love the F9 but the SZ looks way better imo w the larger face and shape of the clubhead. Ill be upgrading just on appearance. Results expecting the same since SS is around 100 and carry 250 avg but I believe in having fun with what your hitting and looks is a big part of it for me. Hot women hot cars and hot golf clubs. Life is short gotta enjoy the ride.....
