Epic Flash driver

Rented a set with Epic Flash driver today. Wow.

Missed one fairway all round. Just pounded it. Medium height bullets off every tee.

Hzdrus Smoke shaft. 6.0.

If you haven't hit it, it makes a weirdly muted sound.

Did I just have a good swing today or is this thing just that good? It's pricey. Is it worth the mucho dinero?

I have an epic flash with a Diamana whiteboard d70 x. I came from a Taylormade M5 with the hzrdus smoke 70 6.5 and I reckon I’ve picked up about 15-20 metres carry.

probably more to do with the shaft than the actual head but when I got fitted I could never maximise my smash factor with the M5 but with the callaway I could.

had it for four rounds and love it already.

of course I had to have the matching 3w

Its a nice face, but always interesting how we feel differently. You say muted. I say aluminum baseball bat whack sound.

I play a standard Rogue which is far more muted.

Not enough of a delta testing it for my game to justify the purchase (though next year I gather the pre-owned pricing for them will go below 250 :)

On the rogue, fully agree. Cally did goofy stuff with its release and I think that is partially why they had so much NOS inventory when Flash launched (all the better for deal hunters like some WRXers).

Same with the Rogue FWs: no adjustment was not a deal breaker for me at all.

My golf OCD is looking at drivers; I l prefer simple clean looks. The green line on the Flash front crown I don't want to see (same as the two tone TM M series: they are great drivers, but I can't look at that).

Its hard to suggest with a strait face anyone upgrading from a driver that is < 2y old these days: so much is in each driver, it comes down to look and feels for most of us.

If you have something 5+ years old, its christmas early, go hit a used club store if you ahve one near by and spend a few hours playing with drivers. Its fun.

At home I have a G and a M1 440. The M1 gives better numbers on the trackman but I feel more confident with the G on the course. Rented an M6 driver last week and hated it. The longer R shaft with too much noodle was horrible. Seems the stock shafts are a half a flex weaker than they used to be.

A trip to 2nd Swing is in my future.

Rogue is fantastic. Have the stiff 60g synergy shaft regular head. Really amazing. Forgiving and accurate with great sound. Looks great too color and all. Flash and the new line might be a slight upgrade but im not intrested. I had a uncle play the flash a few months ago... i didnt notice anything as far a crazy sounds with the driver. I actually didnt pay attention until after the round. Thought hmm thats wierd i didnt notice any crazy loudness. Nice club though. I think taylor mades feel awful btw no disrespect to the tm guys out there but those clubs feel like sledge hammers.

Anyone added 3-4g of hot melt to their Epic Flash to tone down the sound? They do make a crashing sound at impact to my ears. By comparison, the Titleist TS3 sounds good to me. And I game neither.

swing speed could play into the acoustics. I am 100ish, few friends at my driving range with the EF swing above 110 producing bombs regardless of driver (one fellow had a caved face on a GBB Epic 2 years back).

One reason I enjoy MC's videos is he often will test indoors and outdoors and you can hear the different sounds of clubs: they also thought the EF was a bit higher pitched.

Maybe its just me, but I think there are so many driver options today all with good forgiving heads: it comes down to looks and feels.

I have an Epic Flash from Callaway Preowned and mine has a muted sound as well. Went to Club Champion and they wanted me to hit with their head to test different shafts and it sounded like an aluminum bat. So it would seem different heads of the same driver have different sounds. I thought it was odd that mine did not sound like any on the YouTube reviews but it would seem I am not alone based on the OP description.

Got mine at CPO as well and it is muted compared to my club’s demo. Half wondering if it hot melt in it.

I have the EF Subzero. I went with the Smoke X shaft, never hit another driver as straight and forgiving as this one. As long or longer than anything else out there. And you can shape it when you need to.

I tried the TM's , the Epic, the Rogue, TS3, F8, F9, 400 and 410; this one suits me the best and with the extra confidence I'm actually swinging faster than ever. EF SZ - It's loud and it's a beast.

when fitted it was Tensei AV 65 but I had my spare Tour AD DI that was much more consistent. Agree with your statement above, going back to my standard 10.5 loft will give me the length I had. The order from Peoplesgolf is with the Tour AD DI but I back off to SR flex to see if I can get a bit more pop. 57 and not getting any younger or faster but can still hit the current Tour DI fine, just think the SR flex will give me just a little more.

I only hit the SZ, not sure how the normal Epic sounds. My prior driver was the original Epic which I loved and sounded great and prior was all Titleist drivers.

I'd never heard of SR flex before and had to google it. That's exactly what I need. I find that most made for stock shift shafts are between Regular and Stiff. My Ping Tour 65 in Regular feels the same as my Kuro Kage in Stiff.

I'll be 57 in a month. Been playing the best golf of my life the last year and getting better and still usually the longest hitter in my group.
