Need a Bag Recommendation

Guys, as many that follow my posting history know, I know diddly about equipment. I play what my guy puts in my hands as long as it looks/feels good.

My five year old bag is headed for retirement. Thoughts on a new one? Ping Hoofer? Mizuno? Sun Mountain? If so, which model?

I want a walking bag I can use when I ride, if needed, I e not a cart bag and not one of those silly shoulder things. Also, don’t want 14 dividers. That seems unnecessary.

Hit me with your best thoughts....gotta get a couple of recommendations to the boss ASAP lol.

I always seem to end right back at Ping Hoofer whenever I decide to try something different. I know may complain about club tangle with the Ping bags, however when you understand how the bag is meant to function club tangle is really no issue. Its as simple as standing next to the bag tilting it up and removing or replacing a club. That method has essentially eliminated club tangle for me going all the way bag to the Hoofer 2. The set up of the Hoofer just works for me and it is as good on a cart as any carry/stand bag I have used. I would also give thumbs up to the Jones Utility bags I liked the way the Jones carried however I found the bag a little tight with 14 clubs. I also have a Titleist Players 5 bag another good carry bag, but is on the larger scale. Three bags purchased in two years and I am back to caring a Ping Hoofer.

I picked up the Jones Utility Trouper last year and so far, it has been a great bag. Recently took it to Bandon and it held up great. 5 way divider in the top, ample storage, light weight. The straps take a little adjusting but once you find your fit, they work great.

What you want is the bag I use, a Sun Mountain 5.5LS. It's a little beefy but I've walked with it before both with a cart and just on my back (plus obviously riding with it).

I have been a ping hoofer fan for a long time and the only problems I had was that the shaft divider in the bag wore out and eventually broke so I just ripped it out. I just purchased a Jones bag based off rave review on WRX and will be receiving it this week. I am looking forward to comparing the two.

my wife just got me a SM 4.5. I had a ping L8 for 20 years. I thought I was going to hate the SM. I thought I wouldn’t like the stand system with the lever. I thought I’d hate the 14 full length dividers. I thought it would be heavy and cumbersome to carry. I was actually surprised to love it. The only reason I didn’t return it right away is because my wife and kid were pretty excited to give it to me. It feels lighter to carry than my L8. The storage is great, and I will never use a bag without full length dividers again. Not saying it has to be 14, but it just makes the bag so much more organized and easy to pull and put back clubs

I would recommend the standard Flextech Model. I'm not typically a fan of 5 way openings, but the 4 way Flextech Lite doesn't have the cart strap pass, and the crossover would be out due to it being a 14 way top. Flextech Durability is unmatched, ample color schemes, zip off ball pouch which you can send for free two line embroidery, and some of the most plush straps you will find.

I recently had a Flextech for a day. It was nice, but material seemed less durable than my 4 Series so quickly moved on from it. Otherwise was a nice bag similar to Hoofer/4 Series.

Also here to say Hoofer, but go with the Hoofer Lite, or 4 series. They are small enough to carry lightly, but still have ample storage. I just got my Hoofer Lite and have carried it twice, walked today with it on my Clicgear. Carrying it, it feels super balanced and lighter than it actually may be. First bag I have not hated carrying besides a Jones. Does really well on a pushcart too. The quality of the Hoofer is tough to beat.

Another plus one for vessel, the bags look amazing, are highly functional for carrying/pushing/riding. They are expensive but you get what you pay for.
