I hate the wind.

This is why I love the wind. And why you should learn to love it. If youre playing a match or in a tournament...most of your opponents are gonna be grumbling about it which costs focus and eventually strokes.

It can make a round more frustrating. I have to admit though it can be a lot of fun watching some of the ridiculous ball flights that occur.

I'll trade you your wind and mud for our snow and frozen ground.

Personally, I like a good wind. Makes things interesting.

Hi Andrue, I hope you're doing well. I think a strong wind is just one of the many challenges that can make golf the very different, fun and challenging game that it is. Sometimes we hate things because we just aren't prepared for how to react properly to them. Wind in golf is definitely one of those as you've pointed out. We don't take the time to practice in heavy wind at the range, and we typically try to avoid it at the course if we can. This is unfortunate in a way, because actually if we only practice or play in more ideal conditions, then we will pretty much continue to not play our best when playing outside of our comfort zone. Pros certainly make a living with golf, however you can be sure that they have spent countless hours practicing in the wind, the rain, the sand, the mud, whatever conditions there might be. It's why some of these get so frustrating to us, but the best thing to do for example with wind, is the next time you have a windy day, and have the time off, go play in the wind on purpose and get some good experience in, also there are lots of articles giving some typical advice on the basics of wind play. This is certainly not be the best, but it's an example...https://www.golfmagic.com/instruction/getting-started/ten-of-the-best-golf-in-the-wind-tips/5165

Yeah my problem with the wind isn't its affect on the ball. That I can deal with (or ignore since at my handicap level it probably makes no statistically significant difference). No it's just the constant roaring and whooshing noise that I find to be very distracting. I keep wishing I could shout 'just shut up and let me concentrate!' I think I'd liken it to trying to play golf on a course that was next to a motorway or under the approach path of a busy airport.

I enjoy a one club wind. It makes the game more interesting and more rewarding when I choose the right club or play the right allowance for the wind. But once it's up to two clubs, the frustration quotient goes up considerably. Probably because I'm a short hitter anyway. I agree with the thought that my fellow golfers are more bothered by it, and that's good for me.

Played Kiawah in 35 mph winds for the entire round earlier this year. I thought it was going to be miserable, but with the caddie giving us wind-adjusted yardages it actually turned out to be a really fun round. There were times I was clubbing up 4 clubs, and aiming 20-30 yards to the left or right of the pin.

I did used to hate playing in the wind though. I think I'd take it over rain/snow any day, however..

If I have my choice I rather play in rain than wind. But, between the two wind has added a new learning and time has given me the patience so now it's no big whoop. The biggest two things I have learned from wind is the need for a shot that brings the ball down and bores though the wind and the patience to pick longer clubs and swing easier.

If I get up and it's a 4-club wind or raining out I am not likely to play. But if wind or rain come up during play, neither ruins the day for me. Except neither of them are good for cigars.

Agree 100%. I would add when an opponent stops to get a big juicy burger or hot dog and chips, etc., raise the bet. There's a good chance he/they are about to face a juicy bogie or two.

You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.

Living in central Illinois USA, the wind across the fields can torture you.

There is a crummy par-3 course in the area- that will piss you off every time. Knowing your yardages with perfectly hit shots will be blown into the next cornfield.

If not for the wind, I could destroy that course, as a crummy golfer.

And that, my friends, is why I am a crummy golfer.

But, God I love the game....

I only like good weather golf. Hate mud golf. No point. Most of us are not that suited for those 2 conditions. Light mist or drizzlr for max a hr is ok. Jist love nice sunny or overcast golf. Played one good round this year though in the wind finally. Starting to learn how to knock it low for wind. Only thing you can do really.

Love/hate with it for me. I used to hit the ball an awful lot lower than I used to and I really had nowhere near the trouble that I do now, that said if you are going to play golf and play golf competitively in particular, you need to learn how to deal with it. When it blows, the better you are, the more you can take advantage of it when you are playing in a competitive situation.

Do "YOU" call yourself a real golfer if "YOU" won't play in wind, rain or anything other than optimum conditions as defined by "you?"
