Course info in HH area

If you're planning on heading to Savannah (which I would HIGHLY recommend, it's a great city for a bachelor party, lots of bachelorette parties down there, open container friendly in the historic district), Hilton Head Lakes is a relatively new course in Bluffton. We played it the last time we went to Savannah, and really enjoyed it.

Hoping I can get a list of which Bluffton/HH private clubs are walkable (with walking welcomed/encouraged). Info on HH clubs preferred as I know there are a ton of clubs down there.

(I haven't played any of these clubs but it would be great to know which allow walking (and are walkable) and which are not. Thank you.

Being low country, almost any course is "walkable" and most private clubs actually encourage doing so. It's the public courses that move people to riding (as they get more play).

Heck, the highest point on HHI is actually ON a golf course, and that's 28.24 feet above sea level. To put it simply, I don't know of any private clubs that do not allow walking. If you're not sure, call the clubs you're interested in.

Quick updates on the latest courses I played on HH:

HH National right before Thanksgiving was good. Course was in great condition. Others that know more courses in the area have consistently rated this one highly, and I would agree.

Played Shipyard 2 days ago. Didn’t expect much, and got what I expected. Course wasn’t in great shape, looked like there had been flooding. Greens varied widely in firmness. I wasn’t a huge fan of the course overall, but it was solid enough to enjoy myself with a few friends.

Still looking for a course for our 4th round of a trip down to Hilton Head over President's Day Weekend. We play the Sea Pines courses Fri/Sat/Sun (HP, HT, AD) but there's a group of us that don't fly out until Monday night. Would love your guys' input, and if there's any other courses to look at. Here's my list so far:

May River at Palmetto Bluff ($220 + caddie tip) - This would be our splurge course if I can convince my guys to drop the $$$

Country Club of Hilton Head ($119)

Hilton Head National ($80) - from the reviews this sounds like the best bang for our buck

RTJ at Palmetto Bluff - No tee times available

Old South Golf Links ($72)

Golden Bear Club at Indigo Run ($69)

The Golf Club at Indigo Run (I'm a Club Corp Travel member so I can get our group on)

Palmetto Hall courses are back - the Cupp course was fantastic last week.  Can't believe it was let go for so long by the greens crew.  New ownership has obviously put a bunch of money into it - it's fantastic.  The Hills course on that property opens next week.  Can't wait.

Also looking forward to playing Robber's Row at Port Royal on Friday.  Will be my first time on that property.

Thanks for the heads up.  I'm heading down Sunday to my family's place for a couple weeks and will definitely check it out.  I've always enjoyed both layouts there.

Good to hear about Palmetto Hall!

I just played Robbers Row a couple weekends ago.  It wasn't in bad shape.  A couple of the greens were a little spotty and some of the tee boxes needed some grass but other than that it was in better shape than the last time I played it (couple years ago).  Front 9 is a little tight through the trees but it opens up on the back.  They had a course even tighter (Planters Row) that we used to play a lot because it was a lot of fun, but it shut down during Mathew and never opened back up.  It's a shame, I miss that track.
Have fun.

Was talking to another GolfWRX member last night and his son has a junior Brand Snedeker tournament at Palmetto - Cupp this weekend.  Hundreds of families from TN will be in town for it so that's good visibility for the course.  I was really impressed and can't wait to play it again (as well as Hills).

After reading this, I made a tee time for Cupp the Monday I get down there. 8:04 on 10/17. Still 3 spots left if you want to join in and have a little GWRX HH round.

Hey Imp - I'd love to join but we're going to be up in Maryland until the 20th-21st.  If you're still in town that next week lmk and I would like to tee it up for sure.

Couldn’t give Robber’s Row (Port Royal) a fair chance today.  Paid the premium fee and had my 8:30 am tee time pushed back to 9:20 without warning.  Apparently a group of 16 showed up without a tee time and the travel agent and course blamed each other, then they allowed them to play. After the near hour wait I was paired with a couple (including the wife who was a true beginner) and a third who did this modified tomahawk throw thing before each swing.  By Noon I had played 9 holes and was fed up, so I collected a 9 hole rain check and left.  I guess you can have a bad day even in paradise!

Trouble in paradise! I get the whole beginner thing chopping your vibe (see what I did there?) but as long as they know when to pick up, move, drop, and not fall behind the group in front, it's not that bad. Heck, my wife is a beginner (not playing monday) and knows that as a beginner/novice, you may have to do things to keep pace up. Sure, she's not hitting it 275 off the tee with a baby cut yet (she doesn't yet have a GWRX account that allows her to unlock that capability) but you have to be able to read the room and have them move.

As far as being pushed back, I hope mgmt figures that one out quick in what broke down, otherwise there's going to be heartache going forward with a rep building like that. TA should have EMAILS, not just call logs, of transaction, "Look, *pulls out phone* here's the confirmation". Course too (and I'm sure the person they discussed it with was off that day?) When places just work on word of mouth for agreements, it's ripe for misunderstanding.

^ exactly.  This wasn’t a “we fell a bit behind” thing.  Someone at check in should have given a heads up before collecting the fee and pointing to the starter.
