S-Yard TX-V versus Titleist T200 Irons

I've been playing a set of S-Yard TX-V irons 4-SW in R-flex for the past few years. My uncle from Japan sent them to me as he could no longer play golf. When I first saw them, I wasn't sold due to the flex. I have a fast SS and high smash factor. Surprisingly, after my first few shots with these irons, I was impressed. My 7-iron was rolling out to 200 yards and my 6-iron was rolling out to 217. I've gotten my handicap down to 5.9 with these irons. As of late, I've had the itch to get new irons because I've never been fitted for clubs besides my driver.

 

I went to Titleist last week and warmed up with my 7-iron using TrackMan.

 

My result averages were:

Club Speed: 95.1

Ball Speed: 124.9

Smash Factor: 1.31

Launch Angle: 17.1

Spin Rate: 7121

Landing Angle: 49.3

Carry: 171.2

Total: 176.4

 

The results were surprising to me because I've been playing my 7-iron as a 190ish carry club which has worked for me on courses. My fitting was during the Santa Ana winds even though I didn't notice too strong of gusts on ground level. Anyhow, he then switched me to the T200 irons with the True Temper Dynamic Gold X100 shafts.

 

My result averages were:

Club Speed: 95.3

Ball Speed: 128.9

Smash Factor: 1.35

Launch Angle: 17.2

Spin Rate: 6371

Landing Angle: 50.6

Carry: 180.7

Total: 186.4

 

All in all, I picked up a few yards from the lofts being more aggressive by 2 degrees but the differences in my eyes, wasn't substantial. What do you guys think?

Factoring in strike, which relates to smash factor, there may be no differences even with the different lofts. You were hitting the second club more cleanly. Spin difference related to loft differences. Your spin can be lowered on the S Yard by strengthening lofts 1 degree and then you’d likely see both perform close to the same.

If you care, but the SYards are clearly working for you.

Thanks for the feedback and I agree. I got a deal that I couldn't pass up on the T200's and U510 so I ordered a set with the Dynamic Gold Tour Issue Onyx x100 shafts. Should have them in a week or two. I was unsure about ordering these clubs but I'll hit them for a few months and see how I like them. If I don't love them, I'll try your idea of strengthening the lofts by 1 degree on my TX-V irons.
