Please compare 2015 Miura CB 57 to newer forged CBs like Srixon Z785 and Mizuno MP 18 SC, etc.

For those that have used the Miura CB 57s and moved on to new forged players CBs, how do they compare to the newer models? Are they lagging in new technology or are they as good as the latest models?

Thanks.

The 57s are a classic iron. I haven’t looked at another set since bagging these and I was a ho fo Sho.

Just what I wanted to hear, I'll stay with mine and stop looking for new irons for now.

Briefly tested both 785 and CB57 this year. The CB57 is a much more compact and attractive looking head. I would say that of all of the clubs I've ever hit, the ones that stand out are Mizuno MP blades (4, 5, 20) - softest, CB57 - thick and syrupy but soft, and Srixon 7x5 - the most beautifully soft clip you'll ever feel and so good through the turf. Each has characteristics that distinguish them from all other irons IMO. Right now I'm enjoying the classic softness of Mizuno but I could easily game either of the other options. I think the 785s are probably a touch more forgiving. They will also spin a bit less. If you tend to hit it heavy the Srixons could be a solid option as they play with much more effective bounce than the CB57. I wouldn't sell your clubs until you have bought and thoroughly tested another option - you may regret it.

Some spot-on summaries.

I’ll also second that on the golf course is where the Srixons show up in turf interaction. But I really love the feel of the CB57 through impact. Hard not to right? Had a set with Modus 125 S, which was a great build, but let them go. Then when Miura discontinued them I grabbed a set of heads second-hand but in nice shape. Am pondering putting a graphite shaft in one of them just to see what it’s like.

I experimented with graphite shafts on my CB 57s but pulled them out after a month. Reinstalled NS Pro 950GH and they just feel better, more solid feeling than the graphite.

The MP 18 SC are pretty close, the 7x5 is not in the same category imo. For what it’s worth I’ll take my CB57s to the grave.

CB57s look thinner and smaller then a few of the players CBs I have tried (I have not had the pleasure to hit the Srixons).

I ended up getting some CB1008s which just suit my eye a bit better, but hte CB57s were right there in my quests for a second blade but not a blade fun set of irons.

My main set is still the P770s for a wee bit added forgiveness (and I beat on them too :)

Really depends on which graphite shaft you choose. There is a huge range and the quality is so good now. There are several that feel more solid to me than a 98g Nippon steel shaft. I hit that shaft way too high, especially compared to a RIP Tour or a Recoil Proto 125. The one I am interested in now is the new Mitsubishi MMT, which is gaining a lot of fans. I went into it looking to cut down on nagging injuries like soreness, but the performance has really surprised me compared to graphite iron shafts even five years ago.

I game a set of SC and have only hit the 785 once off of mats. I have hit my SC off mats many times and they still feel better, however the shafts could have made a difference. My SC have modus 105x and I hit the 785 with modus 120s and modus 120x. I preferred the 785 with 120x over the 120s but still liked the feel of the SC with 105x over the 785

Yeah no it's just that the 785 feels clunky off mats. If you don't hit them off real turf it's hard to understand the sensation. It's unlike any other feeling you can get in an iron. Very unique through the golf ball. Way softer as well outdoors for some reason. Do yourself a favour and try a set in the wild if you can.

I used the Fujikura Pro 75 graphite shafts and they were definitely easier on the body and hands. I did not feel as tired after a driving range session or a round of golf. I just prefer the NS Pro 950 GH feel. The Miura CB 57s are .335 tip just FYI.

Very good but as I said above, very different. The 785 look like shovels in comparison. The 57s have squat blade length, thin top line, and boxy, higher toe. The Srixon - especially in the scoring irons - look massive next to them. Much rounder toe, chunkier lop line, and more bounce. The Srixons will likely spin less and go a bit further. I wouldn't call them polar opposite but it would be very good to hit both if you can...

If you tend to pick the ball and don't take big divots I'd be more inclined to say 57 and if you get a bit heavy on it the 785. TXG loves the 785 and they have found that if you're shallow through the hit the v sole can interact negatively with the ground and get a bit scrapy/ heavy. The one thing I will say is the 785 feels BRILLIANT through the turf and the strike is gorgeous. Flatter, low bounce sole on the 57. If your miss is fat probably not the best.
