GSS - is marketing at it's finest. As someone said above, go speak to any metallurgist and they will literally laugh you out of the building if you tell them about "GSS" being the purest unicorn metal. They will think you are sniffing glue.

Toulon - Is the #1 selling milled putter on the market in 2019.

Scotty Cameron like all other OEM's are great marketers and there's nothing wrong with that. Sales and marketing are not bad things and props to them for convincing people to spend $4k on a putter.

Tiger's famous putter is of 318 gram head weight, 35.25" finished length, 58 gram grip, D2 swing weight.

Yes isn't that the 318 gram putter with 2 or 3 strips of 4 inch lead tape on the bottom? So not really 318 is it?

I think Tiger applies lead tape only on the rare occasion that a tournament course has slow greens. Even then I don't imagine the tape adds more than 3 or 4 grams, making for about a 322 gram head , D4 swing weight putter.

Not trying to be argumentative but I do run a small golf shop and use lead tape. Many have seen the lead tape on his putter and it's not an occasional thing. 2 or three 4 inch tape adds more than 3 or 4 grams, twice that.

I've been following discussions on the head weight of Tiger's putter on wrx, TCC, and Puttertalk since 2006-07. There is no definitive answer as to the head weight of Tiger's putter before or after the various refurbishments it has received through the years. There also is no definitive answer as to how much lead tape Tiger uses. Everything is speculation. When someone declares with certainty that his putter head weight is 318 grams, or 326 grams, or 345 grams, or whatever, I just chuckle.

Given the shape of the bumpers, thin sole and relatively thin top line/blade height, it most certainly is sub 340g, and likely started life around 330-335. Where it its at now is probably 320-325, give or take 2-3g. There's not much speculation that it likely follows Scotty's early 330g design weights, and by looking at it, it looks very close to the AOP Np2.

Scotty Cameron stated that Tiger's putter was made at 35.25" length with a swing weight of D2. Tiger's Ping grip weighs 52 grams. A swing weight calculator confirms that a head weight of 318 grams (shafted at 35.25" finished length with 52 gram grip) equals a D2 swing weight.

The Piretti "Goat" putter is too heavy, Tiger's Cameron putter head weight is about 318 to 320 grams.

Heard that one several times. Have you seen the bottom of Tiger's putter? I have. It has several strips of lead tape on it that are full length. I won't speculate on the actual weight but guessing more like 330 or 335 and 35 1/4 length with light Pingman grip.

So what if the Piretti putter is 350!

I guess Tiger has applied lead tape to the sole of his Cameron putter about 5% to 10% of the events he plays.

The putter head without lead tape must be in the 315 gram to 320 gram head weight range, because otherwise (at 35.25" length , Pingman grip) the putter swing weight would be significantly higher than Cameron's stated D2 swing weight.

Certainly Pirretti (or any other company) can make heavy head putters and call them "G.O.A.T ", but if the heads weigh 330 grams or higher those putters weigh much more than the putter Tiger uses.

Tiger's Ping from his junior and collegiate days was 315 grams and I believe he instructed Cameron to make him a putter of similar weight.

Tigers original putter is 326 gram head according to my sources not just reading from here on what others have speculated. Not sure about the 5 to 10 percent figure? Either way it only matters what works for us mortals, I prefer D6 to D8 swingweight for my normal greens.

Lead tape usage by TW is definitely a rarity, only the slowest of greens like across the pond and on extremely damp grounds. Watch him carry his putter around the greens sometime, you'll almost always see a lead-free shiny Stainless bottom, a seamless trisole naked putter head. Lead tape would resemble a dull, matte gum-looking affair, not a bright surface. The latest application of lead tape to the cavity is something a little new to my eyes, but the weight of any mass of tape most certainly doesn't exceed 10g, regardless where he puts it, if and when it's seldom used.

To me it's irony that putter head weights have become so heavy(340 plus grams average), because my observation is that amateur players had better putting performance for the decades when putter heads weighed 305 to 320 grams.I remember 25 years ago when Cameron came on the scene , and from 1995 to 2005 )his putter line was made up of 330 gram heads with 35" shaft lengths. During this time he usually offered a single "short putter" or two which had a 33" shaft and 350 gram head weight.

However, approximately year 2005 is when a few companies started making long shafted broomstick and belly putters, and those required extra heavy heads to be a balanced finished putter. Also at that time a few boutique putter makers emerged offering heavy heads of 350 grams or more. Once players started using the 350 gram weight heads I think they liked that mishit putts sounded/felt better than mishits with traditional weight putter heads. So Cameron (and all the other putter brands) soon followed the trend to increase traditional head weights from 320-330 to 340-350. In recent years the companies have realized that heavy heads on a 34" to 35" have too heavy of a swing weight, so now heavy grips are being used to counter balance the putters and create a more reasonable swing weight. But Tiger (and other Tour pros) still use 330 gram or less putter head weights, and I think amateur players stroke, as well as sense of touch and feel was better when they too played the 315-330 gram head weights.

One small item you neglected to add, 25 years ago pro greens were 8 to 10 on stemp meter, now they are 11 to 13 that's a huge difference. I know tiger does the opposite, but for most heavy putters are best for fast greens and lighter putters like 25 years ago for slow greens. The putters 25 years ago had 4 to 5 degrees of loft also.
