What Do You Do With Your Old Wedges?

I use mine to practice with. I play and practice a lot (posted 175 GHIN rounds this past season), and don't want to wear the grooves out of a new set any sooner than I have to. Sure, when I practice the ball may not respond with the old wedges like the new, but at the same time I can't be purchasing a new set of wedges on a "semi-regular" basis. Titleist recommends changing wedges every 75 rounds...yes, that is probably a bit self-serving, but some players on Tour change their wedges every few weeks.

In addition, there is no point in playing a premium ball, if you can't derive all the benefits from it.

I usually sell them on Craigslist for about $60 each, or give them to my brother who plays roughly four times a year

My son gets first dibs if they are still decent, trade if not. Some I've kept to chip in the back yard. Some end up at goodwill. Totally random depending.

My Cleveland CG14s are a bit unusual. I started playing them when the 2010 new groove rule came in, and ended up with 5, 54, 58 mix. Because of the rule, lots of shops started unloading the older groove CG14s (non-ZIP) for pretty cheap.

So I ended up with: 46, 48, 50, 52, 54, 56, 58, 60, and 64. (I got the mid- and high-bounce heads; have all the lofts but not all the bounces). If I have friends that are beginners, we go to the range and they can see what different lofts and shafts fly for the.

I have a couple of the Callaway SWs from circa 2008 (both in good shape) and a couple of other wedges which match vintage sets I have.

And I gave a brand X 60* LW to my brother. I never hit it very well, but my bro really likes and sometimes thanks me for sending it his way.

My garage has two large closets with nothing but my unwanted golf equipment, including equipment from the 80s and 90s. And my practice shag bag is filled with used balls that I no longer use to play golf. I have shelve where all my used gloves end up. I only practice with the clubs I currently play with, wear isn't a concern and I played well over 100 rds last year. Not sure what the count is this year. One of these days I'll get around to selling my used equipment, but the thought of that task makes me keep putting it off.

My wedges are too beat up groove wise to sell or give away.

For the most part, I change like for like when it comes to loft, bounce and grind so I tend to keep an old set and use them for practice or for the winter, no sense in wearing them out when it gets as soft as it does here October through March and there is no competitive golf on the go anyway.

I have a small stash of old wedges purely for sentimental reasons. Wilson X31 (first adult set I bought with my own cash), R90 (bees knees bitd), Cobra Norman 57, couple of Vokey 200 56 and my favorite, an old Walter Hagen SW with no stamping on the sole - it's a beaut.

At any given time I'll practice with one of them in the backyard. All of them would be serviceable today. Great designs are timeless. And fresh grooves are overrated.
