I don't know how much muscle he has gained, but his drive just now on the 18th hole at Royal Melbourne was fucking destroyed. 182 ball speed, dead straight, and it flew forever. It was a thing of beauty.

He seems to have cultivated some fat but it also seems some muscle mass as well. The fastest I’ve ever seen Bryson on the television till now was 179. They had him at 182 on 18

I watch a lot of golf, so I've seen plenty of Bryson drives. That drive on 18 was, by far, the best drive I've ever seen him hit. It wasn't just the ball speed, but the ball flight was stupid; he absolutely destroyed it.

Bryson definitely looks bigger than he did a few months ago. Whether his ball speed has actually increased due to weight lifting or just fine-tuning his equipment and the better Bridgestone ball resulted in some longer drives, we don't know yet.

Something about the guy, I just don't like him much. Is it just me, or is it common? He seems very full of himself & is actually kind of dorky. A couple friends & I have always called him Bryson deShampoo. And what was that big whistle about that he did on a tee shot in the final round? Was it just to shut the crowd up? If so, I'm surprised they didn't make even more noise.

I like him mainly because of his belief and commitment to do what he believes in despite being different from everyone else. Definitely not a "cookie-cutter" PGA Tour Pro like so many on the PGA Tour.

I loved the whistle. Cracked me up. Frankly, it sounded like a bunch of drunk hillbillies in the crowd. No manners. I don't remember President Cups being like that... Bryson certainly marches to his own beat. I get a kick out of him. But, I'm an engineer so I kind of see him as representing us dorks around the world...

If the extra weight works for him, good for him I guess. He certainly looks bloated. It's not totally sloppy weight, but it's far from being close to lean mass. I just can't imagine it's comfortable walking around with 25 extra pounds. He was already a fairly big guy for his height by PGA standards having seen him in person.

 

But again, if it helps him play better golf, more power to him.

He's dirty bulking for sure. In my opinion he would benefit staying at the same weight but being in single digits when it comes to bodyfat. He's gaining fat way too quickly and that's not good. The weight he has gained in regards to bodyfat is not good weight.

Dunno what's going on with that weight gain in terms of lbs/time. But he's going to be hitting the ball a lot further and straighter. Tiger was the first to do it, everyone thought weight lifting was for fools in golf, now Bryson/koepka/rory are pushing it even further. Where's that fool Chamblee now after telling rory to stop lifting mid-season and then rory goes on to win player of the year. Get with the game

I'm starting to find all the comments about his weight kind of funny. He started bulking later in the year so right now you can definitely see that the weight is clearly not just muscle, but plenty of fat. It is so incredibly difficult to add lean mass without adding to body fat also.

Body builders in "bulking" season will intentionally add more weight than necessary with the intent to cut the fat off afterwards because it is a faster and easier process to add more then lean back.

I'll just take the high road and agree that you are correct, there is evidence, only because I don't care to spend time on researching.

My statement is only going based on the time I spent in the fitness industry working with body builders, not medical research.

Also, I didn't say "dirty bulking" is better, I just said its what body builders do. From my experience, it appears to be quicker, but again not necessarily better.

What level bodybuilder? The ones I know and that my friends trains don’t dirty bulk. They are all very regimented in the intake of calories to produce gains.

Well, knowing Bryson's way of thinking he probably planned this kind of progression. Maybe this is his final form or he will trim it down who knows. I think he should be able to up his ball speed even more, considering the huge difference in muscle mass. I know it also doesn't work just like that, but for him to only gain 3mph ball speed isn't really worth it IMO. However, if he does that on average, it's probably already worth like 500k in prize money on the year. I thought he was going to take a year to get to his target. This was super fast, and I'm sure he's still adjusting.
