FOLLOW-UP in post #12 to "How Stout is the Aldila Rogue Silver 110 MSI?"

Thinking about putting the Rogue Silver 60 stiff in my driver. Driver swing speed is 90-92 so I'm on the bottom of the scale for playing a stiff flex. I do have the Rogue Silver in my 3 wood in stiff and hit it just fine. But I've always heard how stout the Rogue Silver for the driver is. Any thoughts or observations would be welcome. Thanks.

I have the Rogue Silver 125 60X in my driver and 110msi 60x in my 3 wood. In my opinion the 70 stiff 110 feels stiffer then the 60x. I have had other people hit my TS2 with the 60x and really loved the feel of it. I think with your swing speed you will really like the feel of the shaft and the dispersion.

To me the 110 Silver Rogue Stiff is better suited to guys with a swing speed in the 100-105 range. 90mph is Regular zone.

Here's a copy and paste from your other thread asking almost the exact same question:

AT 90mph those are two awfully stout shafts. Often times you can actually hit the ball higher with too much spin because the shaft is too stiff as it feels dead (either subconscious or not) and the player will flip their hands at. Flipping at it causes higher than ideal dynamic loft and often times strikes low on the head that impart excessive spin. The fastest and easiest way to lower launch and spin is to 1) make sure you are actually hitting the middle of the club and 2) to just loft down the club or 3) look for a more "tour" inspired driver. Very rarely will a shaft have a massive impact on launch and spin.

Again, at your swing speed though, look at a mid torque, 50g regular flex shaft. Its extremely rare to find someone at your speed that would do well with a stiff shaft unless you change your plane considerably and put a lot of load on the shaft. You do not need a stiff flex shaft, you are perfectly dead centred in the R zone.

@WristySwing,

Thanks for the input. Curious what you think about maybe hitting the Rogue Silver 60 in a regular flex which is more in the mid-60g range? The reason I ask is that I've been demoing different shafts at my club for the past several weeks and I'm seeing the ball go really high with the mid-50g, mid-high torque, regular flex shaft.

Sure it could work. Height isn't all bad. Low spin shots actually launch higher than higher spinning shots, so that is something to consider as well. You'd really have to get some concrete numbers on some sort of LM to really confirm or deny whether one is working better or worse for you.

OP, are you playing the Silver 60 in your FW or the 70? I'm not sure I'd be looking at the Silver 60-S with a driver SS of 90-92. My driver SS is just under 100 and I am playing the Silver 60-R in a Titleist D2. I find the R has a nice firm feel, especially in the tip section, without getting boardy. Prior to the Silver I had an NV65-R in my previous driver, but that one I tipped 0.75". The Silver plays a touch stiffer than the NV, so I didn't tip that one. I tried the D2 before buying it with the Silver 60-S and found it was too much for me.

I have the Silver 60 in my 3 wood.

@Rk5,

This is kind of where I'm at as well. I don't want to have to "work" to put a good swing on the ball.

Here's a little follow-up.

Previous driver was TM M1 with Graphite Design DI5 stiff shaft. With this driver, in a typical round I would hit 3-4 fairways and in one of the last rounds I played with it, I hit exactly zero fairways. Mishits would also result in significant distance loss with the typical miss being a high right weak drive.

So I order a Titleist TS3 8.5* driver set to 7.75* with the Aldila Rogue Silver 60 regular flex shaft. Have played 6 rounds with it. The fewest fairways I have hit so far is 6 with a high of 10. Mishits are far less severe and I have all but eliminated the high right weak drive with my miss now being left. And this is with no swing changes. Not seeing any difference in distance but simply more consistent probably having a lot to do being more confident with my driver than I've been in probably 2 years.

So thanks for everyone's input.

Sounds like you found a good fit... The shafts can play different in different heads... I played the Silver 70s in a 2017 M2 9.5* and felt like I had to really work to get it right whereas the HZRDUS Yellow 76g 6.0 was a breeze when paired with that head... I put a Ping tip on the 70s and am playing it in my G400 LST set at 10*. It seems to be a great fit as it has the tightest dispersion of any shaft I have tried yet in the LST... I like the heavier weight, too. I also have the Silver 70s in my G400 3w and that club is probably the best 3w I have ever had. Not the longest but always there when I need it. My driver SS is in the 104-107 range normally and I feel like the 70g stiff in driver shaft suits me best... I wouldn't say the Silver 70 is stout, but can see it feeling a little more boardy to a slower SS if the flex isn't right.

So I was messing around in a hitting bay and a Titleist fitter walks up, takes a look at my swing and numbers and puts me in a Rogue Silver 60 stiff (driver clubhead 103 mph) and I get pretty good numbers but a lot of spin.

He then has me try the 60 x flex (a 72g shaft) and it’s perfect. Spin at 2200-2400. He tells me, ‘You shouldn’t fear X flexes in the 75g and under range.’ I could not feel any stiffness difference between the two, it worked fine. This was with a 917 D2 head and perhaps very individual to that head. The best thing I can say about the shaft is it is easy for me to hit straight no matter how I go at it. I don’t think it is the greatest feeling shaft I’ve ever tried because the torque is low but it is a fairway finder.
