Abuse Reactions

LOL, I've picked up two for posts that are absolute nothings the past couple of days. Have some serious chickens at work.

I still think it's unnecessary, report or don't report, but if folks get to tag something "abuse" (which has a pretty specific connotation) then let's make sure we can know who did it. Not really any accountability there for the button pushers.

we are looking at this. We are changing the word "abuse" to "Flagged" for now... but I have been listening to you all and we are trying to figure out what to do next. 5 different flags on one post makes it disappear and sent to moderation from memory.

Anyone can flag anything for any reason.

Flags do nothing to your account.

The default setting has you seeing who flagged you. I think that could be very confrontational.

Just look at any post. Spam, Abuse, Report. Shows up as x number of abuse reports on profile.

If it's as innocuous as "flags" I agree, too confrontational.

If the flags are meant to be an alternative and stop as many button pusher happy types from making needless reports, I doubt they would be deterred, but you never know.

Still don't see the reason not to just have "spam" and "report" - and explain your report, if those distinctions make a difference on the other end. Those have always been anonymous, makes sense for lots of reasons for sure.

Applaud the demise of "abuse". Not generally used for whatever purpose the platform designer thought necessary.

Seriously flags need to go away and the report button needs to come back. Recently I was flagged for abuse for saying that I think the new Mavrik driver is pointless.

Btw anyway to remove that ridiculousness from my account?

Ahhhhhhh, you mean once one clicks the "Flag" button. Got it.
@easyyy Why 3 different settings anyway ? What is the difference ? Presumably a MOD has to look at each one, right ? So why not just a "Report" button instead of the "Flag" button (and its 3 choices) ? Seems like overkill.

Self-moderation works using Vanilla’s Reactions. Among the 15 available Reactions, the Abuse and SPAM Reactions are used by members to indicate that a comment is violating the community’s standard of acceptable content. If the Abuse, or SPAM reaction is clicked by 5 or more members, the comment is sent to the moderation or SPAM queue and the comment is buried (i.e. it is collapsed and greyed out.) If the comment receives 10 Abuse or SPAM flags it will be completely removed pending moderator approval. The thresholds that put a comment into the SPAM or Moderation queue can be adjusted by Vanilla customer support.

When a moderator flags a comment, it is given 5 flags and immediately gets buried and sent to the moderation queue. Of course, moderators can delete or edit comments inline without needing to flag them or send them to a moderation queue.
