Sitting in bed thinking about tomorrow, temps will be extreme all over the continent. East coast will be around 105’ and the west coast up to 125’. Not good for the fire fighters still trying to put out the worst fires in our history.

Last night we took a first stab at hosting an open house at our new home. It was a bit short notice as we didn't get invitations out until the Christmas cards were sent, so we had a lot of cancelations due to previous commitments. That was only exacerbated by a messy weather front that went through yesterday with a mix of rain, sleet, snow and ice pellets. Still we managed to get 18 or so guests to take us up on the offer and hard a good chance to visit with everyone. It was a mixture of family, friends and our new neighbours. Seemed to work out rather well actually as there was a lot of mingling almost from the hop. You know what they say about six degrees of separation.
Caught a bit of the President's Cup yesterday and what I saw was pretty good golf. The International Team aren't exactly household names, but they're definitely making a game of it. Just goes to show how good the golf is at the professional level when a relative unknown -- at least to a casual fan -- can lay a beat down on well known US players. The Asian contingent look to be very capable players.

Happy for you with the open house, seems you have a good selection of well behaved friends family and neighbours.

watching the Asian golfers, I noticed the men have the same type of backswing as the ladies, very slow. There does not seem to be a connection at the top as they appear to stop completely before starting the downswing. Looks perculiar but it seems very effective as they have a tidy game.

9am and at present it is 94 and rising, plenty of frozen yoghurt ready for my chickens, they are in the shade of trees from around noon but it will be over 100 by then. Place old towels over the run, cover it with shade cloth and hose it down every half hour keeps them cool. I have threatened these latest with the chicken soup saucepan as they are the worst layers we have had in 43 years of keeping chickens, even though they are the same breed and the same diet. Normally we’ll the extra eggs that we sell to neighbours so our eggs are then free of cost, not this year though.

 

finished watching the presidents cup yesterday, some good golf on the last day singles, USA won 16/14 it was a well deserved win but many games went down to the final hole and often the final putt. Tiger played well again and was also a good supporting captain, first time I have watched this match but will follow it more closely in future.

As i look outside, the snow is falling rapidly. Big flakes,and a lot of them !

forecast of 2/4 inches. Our big family Christmas gathering is next weekend. The weather is

supposed to be favorable after tomorrow. Will be around 30 folks here,counting the little people !

Cobi recently replaced her 14 throat inch quilting machine and 10' frame with a larger 21 throat

inch machine and 12' frame set up. I know what you're thinking.

It's only 10°F here this morning. It's damn cold!!

I'm a little annoyed that the installer isn't here yet as he only has a half day of work left and then he can be gone. Can't get the car in the garage with all his equipment set-up for cutting tile. He's not an early riser as he has never been here before 9:30 in the morning, but generally works until 6 pm or so. No where near the same work ethic that our regular contractor friend has, but I'm gathering that's a generational thing...

[Added] He just texted me and said that he was at a no heat call. Would have been nice if the boss had given us a heads up...

Lots of really fancy vintage equipment getting shown off over in the Classics section for any of you who might be interested. Nicest looking set of Tommy Armour 693 woods and FC 4000 irons I've ever laid eyes on!

For some reason I tend to get all nostalgic in the winter months and pine for classic clubs, particularly the old stuff, including hickory.
