Stroke Lab 10s vs Spider X

vietnameeh

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

with black Friday/Cyber Monday coming up. I wanted to treat myself to one of these two putters

I've rolled both in store. They are both similar. I am giving the edge to the spider x because it just "felt" like it rolled the ball a smidge better. However I probably made the same amount of putts

I was curious about you guys liked.

I was initially drawn to the stroke lab 10s, because I have been thinking of getting into a high moi head like the spider, but the stroke lab has a similar design, some shaft technology and also is $50 cheaper

Thanks!

I don’t think you can go wrong with either putter.

That was my initial response too, it wasn't that the spider x felt softer... it just had a "solid" feel

Agree. Odyssey is using the "star" insert on the Ten and all of the black series which is what most tour guys are using in Stroke Lab putters. When a putter is really soft it messes with acoustics and distance control. This is why you don't see tour guys using "deep" milled putters.

I definitely have a bit of a bias towards Callaway so take my opinion with a grain of salt but I really like the Odyssey 10. The insert feels really good compared to other inserts they've released recently. Both the 10 and the Spider feel incredibly stable during the putting stroke but I think the Odyssey wins in feel by a hair. The new star insert feels firmer and honestly kind of similar to the old white hot insert imo. The Spider felt a little dead on toe or heel strikes but felt fine on center strikes.

What did you decide to go with? I’m in the same boat trying to decide. I feel like I could have distance control issues with the spider x on the course. For puts under 10 feet the spider x felt perfect. Anything long worries me with the spider x. I have a spider X on order through my pro shop but I’m definitely still on the fence. Has anyone noticed distance issues with either for longer putts?

I think if you are on mobile, for whatever reason they are super stretched or oversized

on my laptop it seems fine

That tour issue one (with the white hot) is amazing. I don't know why they don't go back to that.....every Odyssey loyalist on tour seems to use the WH, still.

I went back to the Spider X. The Ten is nice, I just found the X feels has a little more feel in terms of what the head is doing through the stroke. Nothing wrong with either putter but the X wins out for me. I also like that the X is exactly what is used on tour (confirmed by Trott at TM that most of the tour uses the insert that came in the X).

I completely understand your feel issue with the SL Ten. The rebalancing of the total club weight takes some of the head feel away and the graphite filters some of the feedback out of the strike. I solved the head feel problem by putting in heavier weights. Now the head is 375G it is so much easier to track.

I prefer the Spider as for me the feel and performance is the best. I have tested a lot of putters in my years in the golf business. I love the look of the Ping Anser and the many models from other companies. It’s hard to not take advantage of the MOI in the mallet putters that are available. Extra help in alignment is also a big in making more putts for me. I prefer site lines for help. The Pure Roll insert gives me the feel I like and the faster the greens are the more putts I make. I currently game the MyCustom Spider Tour in all orange with double sight lines. I’ve made more putts with this putter than I can remember. I have also just got a Spider X Chalk Center shaft which I will try but not sure it can knock out my gamer. I’ve always liked the center shaft look even had a red Spider Tour center shaft that I liked but being a Clemson Tiger fan could not stand the Gamecock color putter head. Lol Here are pictures of both

Tried them both today.

Spider X felt so much more solid to me.

The SL almost felt too light and hollow. After 3 balls i put it back and never touched it again.

I wanted to like the SL 10 and happened to pick up a spider tour black with t-line and ended up with the spider. Not a TM guy and didn’t want to like it, but it just performed.

Love the look of that WH insert in the Ten. Saw a tour issue stroke lab the other day on Ebay with the white hot insert, might have to grab it now as they are like unicorns

I've been testing these 2 against each other in my local PGATSS since the 10 showed up.

They are SO close but the Spider-X feels and performs just a bit better. Distance control/consistency is really good with the Spider. Seems as though every time I start putting with the 10 and start making quite a few putts I pick up the Spider-X and make even more. Spider-X wins the daily "comp" (LOL) about 80% of the time.

Agree with those suggesting the 10 is just a little bit numb/dead feeling but that seems to happen a bit more with the FB model. The slant neck 10 feels better than the FB 10.

This doesn't actually surprise me though as to ME, most mallets that are FB have the shaft inserted right into the head and that usually makes an awful lot of well struck putts feel almost like they're missed. The sole exceptions to this are the Tour Spider I've been putting with for a while and the single bend Spider-X.

I HATE the Spider-X flange model. The head seems to want to wave open and then close during the stroke. The 10 flange model is easier for me to go SBST.

Just bought a Spider-X copper single bend off the bay and expect delivery shortly. Really looking forward to using it on real grass.
