The problem I have, and I have fallen victim to it in the past, is that by the time the other party is forced to get involved in these threads the damage is already done and the jury has already come back looking for blood. It's almost like the person starting these might have a reason to influence opinions here without the other guy's side of the story in it.

If identified in the OP I think there's less of a chance for rampant speculation to take hold. One of the first I do is to go look at the listing and the accused party's history. You do get some sense of how sketchy they might be and they at least know they are being discussed. In the cases where the complainer won't id who they're accusing I'm as likely to not want to deal with them either.

You need to invite the other involved member to the thread - posting @ in front of the username should alert them to the thread as well as notify everyone else the member's user id

I appreciate the comments even the angry ones.  I have decided not to post the member at this time until things have been resolved via PayPal.  Someone suggested I might be getting a thrill out of this and trust me this is not thrilling at all so you are incorrect in that assumption.  My track record on this site as a buyer and seller speaks for itself and I pride myself on being totally transparent, shipping quick and providing good value.  The reason I requested advice here is this is a rare experience for me as a seller and I was simply trying to test my thinking.   Frankly, it's not about the lousy $300 bucks its about the principle and being jerked around by a guy who had buyers remorse.  I was about to refund and call it a day until the other party started making threatening comments about taking me to court, etc.  At that point I suggested they file a complaint with paypal and we could work through the paypal process.  He in fact did and stated that he did not receive the clubs which is not really accurate as he refused to accept them which is documented by USPS.  I submitted my side of the story and will wait for PP to make their ruling.  I'm not trying to rip the OP off but I'll be damned if I am going to make it easy for them when they threaten me with legal action over a lousy $300 set of used irons.

I'm not positive but if the clubs were refused I believe the USPS returns them to you. I would confirm that with them first and definitely do not refund him anything before getting your clubs back. The whole situation sounds fishy. Isn't overnight service ~$100? I would've avoided the buyer in the first place.

Well the OP with his track record would normally be someone that I would sell to but by taking this stance the block list grows by one. Come on guys this is a community which means we look out for each other! We do not ever let someone ride off into the sunset as long as the bad deal works out in our favor we blast them guns blazing at high noon. It is not difficult to treat people fairly with buying and selling and that is what I provide and that is what I expect in return.

His "track record" is according to him, so who really knows what he's all about? There is no feedback currently, which is why we need to look out for each other IF someone is on the BST acting like it's Amazon.

Not having the feedback system up is really unfortunate and I wish I could stay away from the BST until it's back but that's not realistic... protecting the field would be making that system a priority but until then all we have is each other to rely on.

It should be a RED FLAG immediately when someone is that demanding. If you ship enough stuff, you quickly realize that delivery times are so far out of your control it isn't funny, especially this time of year when all the carriers are overloaded. They can't make their own delivery dates.... OP should have never agreed to that demand in the first place and should have seen that as a potential conflict. If the buyer refused, you should get your clubs back, no, OP? I am a little confused as to how you can be without the clubs AND the money..

If you come here to get advice, the least you can do is give back to the community by alerting us to someone who is unreasonable and most would choose to avoid.

Hate to say it but you kinda did this to yourself. There were too many red flags with this buyer. When they said they needed them Monday you should have refunded the sale and moved on. Not saying this buyer was in the right, but you should have noticed there could be potential problems.

OP deserves anything that comes his way in this situation. You have a responsibility to the rest of the golfwrx community to warn fellow members of potential headaches, scammers, and so forth. Pretty sad you make a post looking for advice from many upstanding members, to in fact, help your own situation, but don’t even have the decency to protect the field and release the other members name. So many problems with the BST since the web page reformat, one of the few things we have left is peer policing... All I know is if I was getting jerked around like this, I’d have outted the other member in my OP.

I believe you were correct in creating this thread for the reason you gave to "Test Your Thinking".

I believe this transaction has given you the experience to alter your thinking and how to recognize red flags.

For example: I'm having another set of clubs built and want these to arrive before hand. If I was having a set built the cost would be four figures and I wouldn't be telling a seller I need them by Monday especially for a $300 set of irons. I might still be ho-in another set but I wouldn't care when they were delivered.

I spent an extra $38 to send via Priority Express. For me, If I was sellling a $300 set of irons, I'm shipping Ground. If the buyer wants it faster, they agree to pay to cover the cost of shipping. I didn't read any request asking the buyer to cover the extra cost.

The irons did arrive before the "build was completed" as the buyer requested and stated yet they still refused delivery. I too would go through Paypal disupte on general principles.

I wouldn't have created a post like this until the issues were resolved. If I'm going to post, my intent is to notify the community of this transaction and the bad faith involved. That could only be accomplished by including the names of all parties.

This whole thing is fishy and I'm not sure we're getting the whole story. A couple of things:

(1) who on earth would ever do a deal contingent on overnight shipping? Never heard a request like this in 100+ BST deals.

(2) I've literally met NO ONE in my life that has ever said "who cares about a lousy $300" when getting screwed. Maybe $30, but not $300.

(3) What on earth is there to gain/protect/preserve by not telling us who the member is? Maybe there is no other member because it's all made up?

(4) Last sentence of post #35 – why is the OP referring to himself in the third person? It can be hard to keep things straight when you're making it up as you go along.

With no feedback able to be left now these threads are the way that we help protect the BST. Please @ the other party. (Granted, I wouldnt have dealt with the buyer anyway. Who wants to jump through that many hoops for a $300 set of irons? Any seller who has done this for a short period of time knows how hard it is to estimate shipping times in the best conditions, much less before the holidays.)

I totally agree.... The OP wasted everyone's time reading this thread. The original post outlined a Turd trying to scam another member and he won't name the Turd. I guess the OPS just looking for attention or sympathy at this point. The rating - feedback system is surely missed when this crap happens.

I doubt the OP would have left negative feedback in the old system. There were multiple examples in which DND complaints never resulted in feedback at all especially negative.

Frankly I'm sorry I asked for advice or opinions on this.  It's quite apparent that the hate and negativity that is permeating our society has made it's way to this site.  I used to come here for enjoyment but frankly it's not worth my time.  I can tell you that the member in question who I have chosen not to name does not have a significant number of posts nor do they appear to be a frequent flyer buyer or seller on this site.  So I doubt any of you will be burned in a similar way.  To those of you with constructive comments I and suggestions I thank you.  For those of you who have decided to use this thread as an opportunity to trash me I suggest you get a life and take your displaced aggression somewhere else.  Happy Holidays to all
