Srixon Q-Star Tour Opinions?

DoubleDrops

Recommended Posts

I used them for a couple of rounds to see if I liked high visibility yellow. The ball performed like I expected for a less expensive tour ball. Cover is more durable than Gamer Urethane that I usually play. Off the driver it did seem to launch high, but I never verified spin rate on a monitor. Off the putter it seemed firmer than I thought it would feel.

If anything can go right, it might!

To OP DoubleDrops, rondre3000 sums it up succinctly above.

I have played the QST on and off — mostly on — since its debut. If the to-be-released version QST3 with, I'm assuming, the SERM cover plays like the QST2 but with more greenside spin and the same price point, I'll be all in.

But if that doesn't materialize, there's lots of balls rolling out in "new and improved!" form this coming spring that will be fun to try on a sleeve-at-a-time basis.

I’ve played the QST for the past two seasons, coming off the Z Star. Really don’t notice much difference. QST is a touch longer, ZStar has a bit more spin. Have four dozen QST left, so will keep playing them next year. Very nice ball, especially for the price.

I also played QST quite a bit this year and plan to play it exclusively after experimenting with a few different balls. Longer than anything except the AVX for me, although carry distance is probably the same or even a little more. Admittedly, I tend to spin the ball too much so the lower spin balls are always better. Definitely not as much spin around the green as a Z-Star/XV, but enough for my short game needs and full shots seem to stop just fine. Add on the low price and even lower deals from time to time and it’s a clear winner for me.

I just picked up 5 dozen QST for the winter at $20 per. I played this ball beginning of the year then moved to AVX this summer. I love the QST ball, I can play this ball anytime.

I am a big fan...Very long for me off the driver for my 100mph swing speed. I suggest buying a dz for $20 and try them. But when the new balls come out I assume they will offer the buy 3 get 1 free deal which comes out to $22.50. So the deal for $20 a dz is not really that great if you plan on buying 3 dz.

I agree here! I play the Z Star XV, did most of the summer, it's a frim ball and performs well in every way.

Decided to give the Q Star Tour a try and recently played 2 rounds with it. Personally feel for me, on a WELL struck shot, I found no discernible difference between the Z Star and Q Star in feel. Distance was a big surprise, in the first round, off a driver I felt I hit a couple off center shots, ball did sky but I did not lose any distance and was surprised where they ended up. During my second round with the Q Star Tour, I managed to hit a few well struck drives, ball flight was no higher than any other ball I use and distance was superb. On driver off center hits, yes, the Q Star tends to launch very high but again I was always surprised how far they carried. On irons shots through the bag, I did not find any excessive roll out but I am a high ball hitter.

Just an impressive amount of carry even on off center hits and on solid shots it's a beautiful ball flight!!! I'm sold on this ball and will play it through the winter...

I saw these for sale at GC for 19.00 a dozen. I decided why not give them a go. For me they seemed to spin like crazy off the driver.

I went back to my regular ball after a couple holes.

I will give them another go tomorrow..maybe it was just a couple of freak swings.

I love the QST, been playing it the last 2 years. I'm relatively slow swing speed though, around 98-100 mph with driver. It's the longest off the driver for me, has great soft feel of the irons, spins as much as the Z Star or Pro V1 around the greens for me, and feel off the putter is perfect. Throw in the recent deal of 5 dozen for $50 and this will be my ball for the next 2 years.

I bought a dozen yellow at $16.99. The price was great for a urethane ball. It's okay, but nothing special to me. I like the Z-Star more. I'm 85-90 MPH and low spin player.

The QST feels and plays like a cheaper 2 piece ball. The Z-Star feels and plays like a premium ball, with better greenside manners, and otherwise just as good of performance as the QST.

I played the Q Star Tour all of last summer, and love the ball. My swing speed tops out in the low 90s, and I feel like the ball gives me everything I am looking for. My comparisons were the Taylormade Project A (similar spin, but the cover wasn't durable enough) and the Bridgestone e6 (did not spin enough for me). I'm going to continue to experiment, especially because I've been working on dropping my handicap into single digits.

A little confused by your statements because as I read them they contradict each other a bit.

"The Z-Star plays like a premium ball with better greenside manners and otherwise just as good of performance as the QST"?

When you say "performance" what specifically do you mean? If you prefer the feel of the Z-Star, that I can understand, but by that do you mean it feels more or less firm?

Not attacking your opinion, just trying to understand as I've never played the Z-Star.

The Z Star feels better to me, and it is better around the greens. I'm not a spinny green side player but I can make use of a ball that effectively slows down the green. I don't see any distance benefit from the QST, I don't like the feel, and it doesn't do much on the green, so to me it's just another 3 piece urethane "slow swing" ball that doesn't seem to give me anything I couldn't get with a good 2 piece surlyn ball. Titleist TruSoft or the like.

To be honest, I have tried this category a lot. Especially the RX. I just don't get anything noticeable out of them. Wait, I have to say they are very consistent on irons. One of the few things I do better than other 10 cappers is strike my irons consistently distance wise. This category of balls is better for me in that respect than the cheap 2 pieces. So that's something. But the Z Star is also like that, but is noticeably better around the greens.

The problem is, I'm cheap!

And, do I convert this supposed Z Star advantage to better scores? Hmmm. Judging by my recent purchases, I guess I am not convinced of that. Let's say this, if QST and Z Star were the same price, I would be playing Z Star. Even with my 88 MPH driver swing.

^ I'd say the opposite. If same price, I'm still going QST over Z. It goes farther (and possibly straighter) off the tee and performs identically around the green for me. I swing driver around 95mph, I think.
