Hybrid shaft closest to the AD DI 95x

Poolparty

Recommended Posts

Of all the hybrid shafts I've swung I think the DI 95x has been my favorite. I have two issues with it that make me want to find a clone. I hate the color, and I know of three times where the shaft has snapped about 4 inches from the tip. Extra stiff but not too stout, low torque, stiff tip, soft mid, average handle, and weight from 90-100g. Can you guys think of anything that fits the bill?

did you have the Driving Iron shafts snap or the hybrid ones?

The Tensei Pro Blue would be similar or the Atmos TS Blue...IMO the DI is still the best like you said but yea snapping the shaft would cause me concern also

They do make a tour only 110MSI one but there are lots of 95MSI X-flex shafts out there, just that they are all 85g (actual raw weight 91g). For the 95 and 105 versions you need to find the tour only 110MSI versions, and good luck with that!

Aside from that, there are tons of options. Aldila Tour Blue and 2KXV Blue hybrid shafts, Tensei Pro Blue 90TX, Fujikura 9.8 Tour Spec-X (this one is stiffer overall though), Evenflow Black/Blue Hybrid, Diamana Thump, Graphite Design AD-IZ Hybrid, Fuji Atmos Blue/Black hybrid,

I have to say though... The Atmos stuff doesn't feel like the tour blue or 2kvx to me. Atmos femur much more rigid... Less Kick, more stable. Tensei blue is kind of an inbetweener although I've never handed the pro Blue, just the standard one.

I've gamed and also snapped an ad di. Wonder if that's a coincidence or not.

IZ maybe? Supposed to be kinda the replacement for the DI but updated with T1100 (at least in the wood shafts). It's black, white, orange; instead of all orange.

How is it working for you? You picked up a Tour 110 right?

I'm interested in a Pro Blue but the 80TX was too soft and I haven't found a 90TX in good condition or under $150

HybridI think it's a thing. I don't think GD makes shitty shafts, but that maybe there was a bad batch. I've only seen 5 snapped shafts from normal use and 3 were DI hybrids.

I agree that the Atmos feel more muted -- like I was putting more energy into it but getting less into the ball. I bought a Fujikura pro 83x but I'm worried that that's the Fujikura feel people talk about. It may work for some but I don't like it.

I was going to as I found one on eBay but I didn't feel like buying like the 30th shaft in 2 years on a blind whim. I'm using a Tz6 80X (it's meh...) but probably going to go back to my Tour Blue even though it's a tooooouch soft for my taste, I'd much rather game something on the softer side, than heavier/stouter side. The Atmos blue was exactly what was described, I felt like I had to put tons of effort into my swing and still didn't feel much loading or unloading. It wasn't like it was mega stiff... it just had no feel to it at all. Reminded me of like a C taper or something.

That's certainly a good find. I don't need a perfect bend profile match but I figured with the popularity of the ADDI there would be some more similar clones.

The thing all the shafts that work for me have in common is a very stiff tip. If I don't have that in the last 8-10 inches of a shaft I either hit it left or get a balloon ball. I love the DI 95x, but if the bend point was higher or if the tip was stiffer that would certainly work. Something like the DI as long as the tip isn't softer is what I' looking for. You're one of the guys here I love talking to about shafts and launch numbers. You never feel like the black is too much of a high launching profile/ or lose control of the tip? And do you know the full length weight of the 95? (Or have one for sale?)

Happy to help! Btw I was just going through my PMs and realized I completely forgot to get back to you about those shaft comparisons. I'll get those for you today.

Regarding the Rogue Black, no I don't feel its is too high launching or loose in the tip at all. I am a huge fan of the feel and stability of that generation of Rogue shafts, both the Black 110 and the Silver 125. To me the Black 110 is one of my ideal "Blue" type profile shafts that helps me turn the ball over. When Max Homa won the Wells Fargo earlier this year, he played the exact shot with that shaft I want off the tee on the last hole in Round 4:

You can tip them for more stability as well of course. Regarding hybrid versions, I have two 105h's and an 85h but they are all in use. I haven't been able to source a 95h yet, but I think they are close to 100g raw weight. I've literally only ever seen 2 on eBay in the last few years.

It's on the radar, but I believe I heard it plays stiffer than the DI so it's one of the shafts I'd want to try firstMaybe an Pro Blue 80TX would work for you? Idk if you've tried it but they're pretty available and Ping should have them in a fitting cart. I was quoted under 100 for an 80TX from Ping but over 200 for a 90TX.

I swung the Atmos blue 8s in a hybrid and the Black 9x in an iron and they both had that type of feel. Now the results were good -- just because I felt like I wasn't getting ball speed doesnt mean I wasn't. I hit some bombs w the hybrid, but I'd rather not feel like I have to swing it that hard. I hit a lot of under 90% shots w my hybrid so I care about the feel.

Hold off for a second, I'll find it and see if it's still relevant. I cringe when I see some of my old posts/questions cuz I just had no clue.

On the hybrids, I don't think I'm necessarily looking for a blue profile. A lot of the blue profiles I've swing have been too tip soft. The first qualifier I need is a stiff tip. I'll write a rundown of what I've felt in all the hybrid shafts I've swung in my next post.

So just to confirm the rogue black is 91 grams for the 95 and 110 msi in the 85 weight, and roughly 100 grams in the rare 95 weight?

To me, Graphite Design makes a unique product and AD DI is their signature profile. I play the AD IZ 95 x which has a stiffer, one piece feel to it. AD HY will feel a little softer and launch a little higher. AD DI sits right in the middle. All slight variations of the same bend profile. All GD Tour AD products are more similar than different. But I'm with you, the AD DI orange ain't for me. The matte black AD IZ is on point. The AD IZ 95x is a beast. I suppose you could go down a flex in the AD IZ if you wanted more height, spin, kick.

To the op, are you purchasing your shafts from an authorized dealer? Lots of fake graphite design ad shafts out there. The iz profile is different from the ad di. However, the AD HY is pretty much the same profile without the horrid color.
