Anyone Still Game the Old Ping Anser 2 Putter?

I’ve tried many different putters but still have a soft spot in my heart for the old Anser 2 putter. Anyone else still game one?

I still see them in people's bags. You can still purchase similar putters brand new from Ping. One of the all time greats.

I bought an Anser 3 for use on slower greens. Or, just to have. ;)

 

It's essentially the MgBr version of the Anser 2, or so it's been said a couple times on the intarwebs, true or not. I prefer the MgBr Pings to the stainless Pings in the taste tests I've done.

I have a lot of old Ping putters. Most never see the course anymore. The BeCu Anser 2 is the only one that will sneak into the rotation. Such great feel.

same mold as the original anser 2 but with TR grooves....

I sometimes use an Anser 2. I've never rolled anything better in a testing environment with cameras rolling. But I still use blade putters on poa and bent grass. Rye and Bermuda grass I have better luck with nearly face balanced putters.

 

I'll always have an Anser 2 handy.

It’s a shame we can’t get BeCu putters anymore. If there ever was a metal that could be soft and firm at the same time, that was it.

I still play one from time to time. I like the newly made ones. They feel a little softer to me. Still I revert back to my Newport 2 as I make more putts with it due to weight.

I had a chance to buy a BeNi Anser many years ago, reasonably priced, and passed on that deal. Yeah, not my brightest move ever.

I have an older anser f that found its way back into the bag recently and it seems to want to stay. Great feel and I’m sinking putts.

much lighter than the Scotty copies out there but it feels great, looks better with the titanium pixels and since I put a lighter grip on it the balance seems to suite me.

the feel of a well struck putt is exactly what I like, like butter but just out of the fridge butter not room temp.

tmuch lighter than the Scotty copies but really neat looking

I still have a Pat Pend Anser 2 in the closet, they are a little on the light side but yes, a very nice classic putter.

I still have mine from, like ... the early 90's. And yeah, it's crazy light.

I've actually considered taking it out for a round sometime just to see how it performs. Hit a buncha great putts with that thing back in the day.

I've never heard of anyone changing the type of putter they used based on the grass of the green which is interesting. I've heard of weight change but not that.

Mine has a copper insert. Josh at Kingdom Putters (CNC Creations) just made this for me. Received delivery today. Copper insert feels amazing.

And yes, I still have my Anser 2 putter that I've been using for the past several years. It's been in/out of the bag for the last dozen years. Still in awesome condition. Easiest putter to line up.

Just put one back in play.  Cut down to 34" and added lead tape for a total weight of 482g.

Anser 2 and his pimp cousin Newport 2. I just picked up another Anser 2 that looked kinda funky, then I realized it’s 36”. When the heck did they make a 36” putter? One is a permanent fixture in the no-give-a-crap par 3 bag. I don’t want a fitting because I don’t want to be told I should be using something else.

It’s crazy but a lot of the classic PINGs were made in 36.  It saves your back! 😉

I’m definitely going to play it as-is for awhile. I’ve got another that’s 34” so it’ll be interesting to see what happens.

The light head weight fits a longer shaft better.  That being said it’s not for everyone.

I cut down my Ping Anser 2 36" to 34" but played it a few rounds at 36" and just choking down a bit.  I've played a 34" putter for maybe the last 15 years.  After I cut down the 36" to 34", it is significantly different with regards to my posture.  I wish I just cut it down to 35 or 35.5.  I'll play it at 34 for now and maybe extend it to 35 later.

I’ve got an early 1990s 36” Anser as well.  I’m 6’2” and every time I putt with it I wonder why all my putters aren’t 36” or longer
