Former Apex CF16 guys?

I switched to TM P770 for the last 1 1/2 years. Mainly because I couldn't take the offset anymore. I like GI club and I am more about feel and the least offset I can get. I am getting fitted for either the P790 or the Cobra King TEC hollow body irons in January.

There was a distance drop when I switched, and now with the new P790 I think I'll get the distance back and still have less offset so it will be a win win

I played the Apex CF16s for quite awhile, switched a few sets and then went back. Now I am in the Titleist T100 and don't plan on switching back to Apex (I tried the Pro '19s and hated them).

I gamed mine for 3 years and then tried to switch to i500s early last year. Big mistake. Switched back and played the majority of this year with the CF 16s again. I have finally found my replacement though (see signature). I actually think the MP-20 HMBs feel / sound better than the CF 16s (and for sure look better) and are actually a bit easier to hit (especially for my low & toe miss as a sweeper/picker). For what it's worth, the lofts are also a bit weaker.

iBlades 4-PW

I just was ready to move back into a player’s iron full time. I love my iBlades, they are arguably the best clubs I have ever owned. Ridiculously easy to hit.

i went - CF16 > XR Pro > Apex Pro 16' > Apex Pro 19'.

CF16 will always have a special place for me, magic clubs, that did their job in that they helped me improve my iron game & were easy to hit and get great distance with especially long irons (suppose strong lofts help that alot) the 7-AW was quite accurate also.

still have my practice set of CF16s with original XP95 R300s in them, may shaft them up with something im interested in trying and seeing what i can do with them, either way i wont be getting rid of them, may keep them for when im old and decrepit and can no longer swing Dynamic Gold.

I played the CF16 ‘s when they first came out. Played them until they were tired, thought I would try something new

and bought TM790’s, big mistake. Then tried a set of Honma’s, they were good but not like my cf16’s, so they are

now in the garage and bought another set of the old trusty cf16’s. I tried the the new cf19’s, but I didn’t see much

difference.

I switched from CF16's to the Apex 19 Combo set in the smoke finish. I always struggled with the offset in the CF16 short irons (missing left) and never totally trusted them although I learned to play them eventually. That was the main reason I switched. I was fitted at Club Champion and they put me in the new KBS tour graphite 80I shafts where I was playing Recoil 680's. I hit all of the new Callaway and Titleist irons and these put up the best numbers for me. All in all, I'm very pleased but I seem to be about a 1/2 club shorter with the Apex 19 combos than the CF16's which was a little unexpected. I suspect it is the shaft more than the heads. The Apex 19 Pro short irons (8-GW) suit my eye much better, and I have rarely missed left in the 5 or 6 rounds I've played with them. The 4-7 Apex 19's play very similar to me but seem to interact with the turf better than the CF16's. I'm a big fan of the Apex 19 Combo set and highly recommend it. It has taken a little getting used to but I think I made the right choice.

Hope this helps.

I switched from CF16s with recoil 110s to i500 with Nippon 105s. Hated the I500’s and got rid of them and kept playing the CF16s...until the CF 19s came out as I had worn out the 8 iron and sand wedge faces of my CF16s. Shafted the CF19s with the steel fibers in 95S - not really digging them. Iron play has been very inconsistent since I switched. Unfortunately traded in my CF16s during the 50% trade in bonus. Feeling my issue is related to the shafts (and me of course). Looking to get either some CF19s with recoils or G410s with recoils in the 110 stiff. Would consider CF16s as well but want a new set not used.

I switched and tried two sets of irons in the beginning of this past season, a 19 Apex Combo set and Srixon z585 (4-5i) and z785 (6-PW) combo set. I didn't like the Apex/Apex pros, random shots would fly 20 yards long, and rolled through greens (they spun to little for me and I am a pretty high spin player). I played the Srixons all season and really like them. They will be staying in the bag. Numbers are good, and they feel great.

Timely question since i'm starting to think about replacing my CF16s as well. I've had them in the bag for almost 3 years. Prior to that I was swapping irons about every 6 months.

I'm looking to keep the distance & forgiveness, but want to reduce the offset to help with the left miss.

So far the candidates I want to try are the new Cobra Forged Tec, PXG 0211 & the sub70 699 Pros.

I went CF16 to Rogue Pro and finally Srixon Z585. Quest started after I thought I needed more forgiveness so went Rogue Pro and then started to dislike the feel, tried a mates Srixon 585s and I've been hooked nearly the entire season. Srixons are the first time I've considered getting another set of irons as a backup set.

I started the original "Apex CF16- Best Irons Ever" thread. I played great with them for a whole season but then started to see a gap between 7-8 irons. I moved on the the Srixon z565s and they were actually 5 yards longer than the Apexes and no gapping issues. z5 series are awesome irons! I have moved along since. The ho comes out in all of us. I currently have 919 Hot Metals which are fantastic and just ordered PXG 0211's last weekend with the price drop. If I wanted forged, I'd go back to the Srixon 5 series or 919F. Otherwise, 919 HM wins in the cast category.

I had a set last year and sold them and went back to my ie1's. Then I missed them and bought another set at CPO but haven't played them yet. Still new in the plastic.

I'll unwrap and play them next spring.

I played the cf16 combos for a while. Great set but as some have mentioned, a bit too much offset and the feel is a bit clicky, especially on the non-pro long irons. Went to x forged for a year for better feel and more traditional lofts, but I hated losing the distance advantage I had with the cf16s.

I'm now playing the 2019 p790s and absolutely love them. Long, forgiving, great feel and great looks.

Don't get too hung up on lofts. If you're hitting your distances with good launch and spin who cares what the lofts are.
