Not everyone is the same. There are outliers

this all got me confused and tangled up... not a fan of lpga vs jlpga vs other lpga tour ranking point discrepancy but what is this "decay" thing? sounds too radioactive for me... LOL.

can someone help me understand how 100 points fm the BO ends up 60 after a few months and the quote "shibuno needs to make up an average of 2 points per week". via an example in math?

after taking a day off the forum and reading all the computations, i am now lost LOL... BO 100 points / 52 weeks = average of 2 points per week? since every week rolls off? is that the 2points per week? and how does it turn to 60 though? TIA :s

I was incorrect in saying “almost 2 points per week.” I was going off of this.

“For the first 13 weeks after an event the player receives the full ranking points earned in that event. However, from then onwards they are reduced in equal weekly increments over the remainder of a two-year period. This gives priority to recent form. Each week the ranking points are reduced by a factor of 1/92 (approximately 1.09%) so that in week 14 only 98.91% of the ranking points are credited, continuing until week 104 when only 1.09% is credited. From week 105 the ranking points are completely lost.”

That would result in losing 1.09 points per week from a Major-win after 13 weeks. When I posted I somehow confused 1.09 with 1.9 and rounded up to “almost 2.”

Depending on a player's point profile; each player will lose between 1.0% and 2.3% of her total points each week.

Shibuno's point profile is excellent. Most of her points were earned within the last 35 weeks, she probably will only lose around 1.3 % per week.

Shibuno has a total of 209.24 points; she will lose around 2.7 points per week until her point profile changes.

Thanks a lot guys! I am a bit confused as to how these numbers were obtained? Ordered by LPGA? eg 1.0%-2.3%? eg subjective? logical? I'll take them for what it is but you guys would know more about these and how they came about...

On another Japanese note, since we're talking about Shibuno's ranking, I am reading that she intends to join the LPGA and go through QSchool in 2020 for a 2021 LPGA card... I will have to ask and do more reading but that seems to be the case -- which is VERY ODD! (why not now when you don't have to go through the rigors of QSchool -- does she have a clue what she needs to go through??? I should ask Bianca to text her LOL)

EDIT: yes, that is what she said after reading and REREADING golf digest japan, and other Japanese press... I am sure of the translation of these, just not sure if it's a joke given it's Shibuno's 21st birthday or she's serious about saying it... I mean, why say it when you have more than a year ahead... doesn't make sense, she thinks she needs one more year in JLPGA before going to Qschool when she can do it and state her intentions NOW (or in the next 3 days)... heck, she has enough from winnings and endorsement $ (or Yen in this matter) to hire a japanese chef, stay in Florida and of course compete in most, or all LPGA events... at any rate, maybe this is her just doing it for the challenge -- the challenge of Qschool and LPGA after still staying in JLPGA for 2020. (facepalm LOL)

Seventh win of the season; we haven't seen that for a while.

She'll move to Rolex #17 and within 0.3 of Hinako Shibuno.

And her third consecutive win, they were saying today.

She closed with a birdie on the last, and I have to say, I don't quite think she hit it where she wanted to. Water on the left, pin left side of the green, and she was hitting a hybrid. Smart money says stay right of the flag. She went left and somehow managed to find the space between the pin and the water and was pretty close to the hole. I bet her heart was in her mouth when she hit that shot, though.

In short, Hinako wins her 4th JLPGA tournament this year, beating Ai Suzuki by one stroke by shooting a -6 in the last round... exciting finish in the last 2 holes :)

can always re-watch on youtube... :)

youtube is always updated come monday morning (japanese time) with extra commentaries to boot from different stations... that's how i sometimes get my additional rumors/golf talk on the japanese golfers (Eg how the domestic sponsor angle - eg shibuno sponsors were all domestic focused companies -- might have led her to not consider US LPGA amongst other reasons)

Here's something a little interesting that the Japanese media just reported on today. So Shibuno has a regular caddy, Saori Sadayoshi whom she's been with since her pro qualifying test. Yesterday's win was actually her first with Sadayoshi on the bag! For her other three victories this year, she had a different caddy. She cried yesterday because she was so happy to get her first win in with her regular caddy.

No wonder she did... For a while there I kinda wondered why out of all the others, it was here where she got truly emotional... the others were all "la-la-land"/smiling cinderella reaction whereas this one, the 4th JLPGA crown this year (and 5th overall), even had tears... finally makes sense (it wasn't even as big as the other ones she's won in JLPGA nor as dramatic come frm behind eg Descente)...

  • 1 month later...

Ai Suzuki ends the year and begins the year within the top 15 of the Rolex Rankings.

I think I read an article on the jlpga website at the end of the season where she said she wants to play in the Olympics, but can't have qualifying for it as her focus. And says she's looking forward to playing in the LPGA majors.
