Winter jacket suggestions

Recommended Posts

Try calling TGW about the cancellation / repurchase. Have the order numbers hand when you call. I ordered an Elden earlier this week that got cancelled. I ordered some practice shirts at the same time, which took me up over the $99 free shipping limit. Today, the Elden that had gotten cancelled by them became available again. So, I ordered it. But this time, I got charged $6.99 shipping.

I called them, and explained the situation. She verified that I had previously ordered the Elden and that they had cancelled it and then went into my new order and credited the Shipping & Handling charge. Based on what I've read earlier in this thread, TGW's customer service policies seem to be very reasonable and customer friendly. I think that they would make a price adjustment for you.

TGW customer service is great. I chatted with them regarding two separate orders that had additional price reductions after I received them. They quickly issued a credit on both.

The Norse vest is awesome - I wore it over a suit jacket and under an overcoat today with the temp in the teens and a light breeze, knowing I had several blocks to walk in downtown Cbus. I was sweating by the time I reached my destination. And, I was able to fold it up and jam it in my coat pocket when I got inside.

Forgot to add I will miss Ping clothing - I wish they had done a better job of marketing in the US. I had purchased somewhere last year a Ping sensacore golf shirt that I really liked and glad I was able to buy a bunch in this sale.

For those who are looking for things that are no longer available at TGW, take a look at PING's website. They have also dropped their prices. They're not as low as TGW's. But they are low and for some items, they appear to have a better selection than TGW on some things. Eldens are now $35.99 (5 colors available) and Knoxes are now $71.99 (Large, XL & 2XL).

My Phasers came today. I don't like them as much as the other 1/4 zip tops. But, I don't hate them.

They are kind of unique in that the sleeves are a completely different material than the body. I'm guessing that it's almost like a mid-layer equivalent to the Norse II Zoned. Kind of a mid layer vest with thinner sleeves. In this case, the sleeves are fleece on the inside and smooth, like the Primaloft fleece on the outside. But, it doesn't seem to be a thick or warm as the Primaloft fleece.

The biggest thing for me though is the size. It is definitely tighter than the Elden is. I own the Elden in both XL and XXL. The XXL version of the Phaser is closer in size to the XL version of the Elden than the XXL Elden.

Please excuse any typos. My internet service is out. So, I'm typing this on my phone.

Just got the Norse Fully Insulated yesterday. I must say overall I’m very happy with it. It’s going to take some getting used to the zipper on the opposite side but I really like it. I’m 5’10 185lbs and always move between medium and large depending on the brand and the fit. The large Norse was perfect. The only knock on this jacket is the lack of wrist closures as they are a bit big for me.

I posted one earlier. It’s more of a mid-layer if that makes sense. I wouldn’t go too cold with it, certainly not Norse conditions. I’d say it runs about a half to a full size small. I’m 6’4 190, athletic build with long arms and it was tight for me in the shoulders which almost never happens with L size clothing. It did fit well in the waist (I’m a 34) which i like but some with more girth in the stomach wouldn’t enjoy that. I would have kept it if it weren’t for the shoulder issue and i just didn’t feel like exchanging for an XL and checking out of that fit worked better for me. But all in all it’s a very sharp looking jacket if you can get the right size for yourself.

So I've finally been able to actually use some of my Ping apparel. Our weather has been bouncing around quite a bit of late.

Ping Norse II is much better for cold-weather golf than I initially thought it would be. I didn't like the extra padding in the arms, but one of my worst swing faults (especially when I get stiff and cold), is letting my arms get too active and quick in my golf swing. The added padding in the arms actually seems to help with this fault!

The Zero Gravity rain stuff is simply awesome. Most non-restrictive rain gear I've ever used. Feels like the you have absolutely nothing on.

I took my Norse II out this weekend too. It was a day that started out cold but warmed up fast and with little wind. The temp at the beginning of the (9 hole) round was in the low-mid 40s around Noon and expected to reach the 50s later with sun. I debated on wearing the Norse II or not because people have confirmed just how warm it is. But I really wanted to get it out on the course. Yes, it's warm! After a few holes and warmed up, I was sweating. This is not the jackets fault of course so it does what it says it will do. Movement was good but I did have to get used to the insulated sleeves a bit as it felt a bit bulky. That was more mental until I settled in.

I'm glad I wore it as this will help me determine that this jacket will be used for sub 45 degree days or days w/ cloudy skies and lots of wind up to ~50. Otherwise, I will likely wear a lighter jacket or just another layer. Very happy w/ the jacket.

Bummed I missed out of the Zero Gravity jacket as I could def use a really rain shell. I have a pair of Nike pants i like but usually just wing it on my top if there’s any bad weather In mild to warmer temps. Anyone have a recommendation for something similar to the Zero Gravity? This caught my eye but have no experience with it:

Keep looking each morning. It appears that as merchandise is returned, they add it back into inventory the next morning. This is just an educated guess. I've seen color/size combinations go out of stock during a given day. But, haven't seen a color/size combination that was out of stock at the beginning of the day, appear back into stock until the next morning. Sometimes an item is completely off the site one day and is back on with multiple sizes the following morning. Right now, the long-sleeved Zero Gravity is only available in XXL. But, that could change tomorrow. It's even more likely to change next week as Christmas returns come back.

Yeah i saw you mention that earlier. I will do that but if anyone can chime in with a lighter long sleeve waterproof shell, I’m all ears... or eyes.

YCCSC1ZXCEU6.pngLooks like TGW finally added back the Zero Gravity long sleeve half zip in an XL. I grabbed the short sleeve as well but in a L. APP30 code for 30% off is nice for those that missed out on the original deal.

I never wear a winter jacket as such when I play. What’s comfortable for me and offers best swing freedom is simply three layers - a base layer, a mid layer sweater, then outer layer. I have varying thickness UA base layers, variable weight Windlite sweaters, and variable weight Windstopper outer layers. Mixing these pieces gives me comfort in any conditions.
