Honest Review Needed for Srixon 785

IMO if you are a golfer who makes decent contact with your irons you can play these. A 12 handicap could be a player who loses shots off the tee or in putting. Srixons are in general very playable for a wide variety of golfers and easy to combo if you want a 585 long iron for example.

The 785’s keep calling out to me. I really love the feel and playability of my Bridgestone’s, but for some reason I keep thinking about the Srixons. I never hit them outside, only on a mat indoors and had the same experience as someone mentioned earlier, just did not feel right. I need to get them in the dirt, taking divots. But I love the shape at address and the overall design. They will probably end up in the bag this year, just need to decide whether to hold on the tour b’s or not.

BD...have you hit the 545/745. Playing them last season, I have never hit better 5 irons than with the 545 5i, worked great for me. Finally, jumped off the Cally bandwagon and 545/745 combo is what I played all season while testing a bunch of others sprinkled in (i210, 919 Forged and HMP, AP3, 790) and always went back to the Srixon. Now I have a 585/785 w/ U85 3i waiting in the basement along with a beautiful looking clean set up J15CB that I picked up. I must say all three sets look pretty close headshape wise. 745 head is favorite of the 3, but the topline is thickest of the 3. J15cb and 785 look really close from address. J15cb long irons look great to me, high on the confidence scale.

BD...you able to get along with the topline on the 545/745. Doesn't bother me, but its been a long time since I played Wilson Staffs that I grew up playing. BTW...I am an 8 index and Srixons worked really well for me. I'm pretty old school though.

I picked them up dirt cheap and mint so I had a backup set as I was without clubs. I played them yesterday, pulled the heads and gave them to my dad in exchange for his (my old) 785s. They were just too much club for him. He’s a slow swinger and doesn’t compress the ball well. Long story short, the 545/745 combo is awesome and I could easily game them but the 785 fits my eye much better. I’m ordering a set of Staff blades which will likely be my gamers this season. I’d love to try j15cb.

Yeah...I was surprised comparing them how much thicker even the 745 topline was compared to 785 and J15cb, but 785 and J15cb heads are slightly larger and rounder..very close in shape. In the short irons, the shape of the 745 is great. I love the shape of the PW compared to everything else I tried. But if you want a thinner topline...I'd say go 785 over 745.

Srixon irons are going to be the softest irons on the market. Their blades and cavities are always made from 1020 carbon steel whereas every other manufacturer uses 1025 carbon or even 8620 carbon.

Compared to AP2, the Z785 are going to be slightly larger in profile. They have a slightly larger blade length, and the top line is more squared off giving it the appearance of being marginally thicker. Z785 have slightly stronger lofts than AP2, but even at the same loft the Z785 will spin slightly less than the 718 AP2. In general though, Titleist heads are usually higher spin than their counterparts. If you're wanting more distance then the Z785 might give you a few yards more.

Forgiveness is equal, it'll more come down to looks.

If you're getting good results from AP2 now, you may just want to stick with AP2 moving forward. The 718 AP2 or even the T100 are fantastically designed irons and you can't go wrong choosing them. There's a reason why AP2 is the most popular Titleist iron choice by the Pro's, it flat out works for any handicap. Sure, this may be the more "boring" choice since you're already using a variation of AP2, but you'll be comfortable in that setup. If you're looking to lower spin, pick up a few yards, and a slightly softer feel, then go Srixon.

I've posted in other threads.....first, I'm lefty and haven't hit everything.....however I've hit enough including PXG .....I normally go through 4-6 sets per year looking for the holy grail

After getting into my Srixon combo Z585/Z785 ;4-6i z585 7-pw Z785.....I've now recessed any need or thought of another set. I'm normally low launch with longer irons....I've tried everything and most shafts. These have standard kbs tour regular 110g and coupled with z585 heads, I'm seeing heights not seen since my youthful 40s!

The feel is slightly different in the 585 being a forged body with steel face but they serve their purpose.

The Z785 : I've only got the 7,8,9 and pw but man.....feel, flight, forgiveness, looks , turf interaction and feedback....other irons can match them in some of the categories but I hadn't found them. Iblades worked but too much bounce and not as good a feel; etc, etc.... really tough to say but seriously I don't need irons for a long , long time!

I have looked at the Tour Bs and the sole grind looks a lot like the J15 CB. My opinion.. DO NOT get rid of the Bstones, BUT... get yourself a set of Srixons. It doesn't even matter what generation you get, you owe it to yourself to try a set of them out. I do not like having only one set of irons, at the moment I have the J15 CBs, 765/965 combo, and some Honma 737V. All are great irons, but the sole grind of the Bstones and Srixons suit me best. The Honmas are really nice, too but are most likely getting returned. I will be rolling with the J15s and Srixons. 765s are SO similar to the J15s, just a tad shorter blade length and a tad wider top line, but just awesome irons. Have BOTH!!!

@Nixhex524 I don’t think I can ever get rid of the Bridgestones either. They are so soft and solid and playable it’s hard to argue. Played Mizuno for a long time and these tour b’s are just incredible. They don’t get the love of the j15’s, but I actually like the shape at address of the tour b more. I keep thinking of possibly finding some 745’s to save a little cash. But I’m also torn in buying an anser style milled putter as a back up as well...?. I want so many things.

I started The 2019 season with two sets, the Apex CF 19 combo set and a combo set of 585/785’s. I quickly realized how much better I liked the feel and consistency of the Srixons, so early in the season I got rid of the Callaway’s, and stuck with the Srixons. As the season progressed I realized how much better I like the turf interaction and feel of the 785’s so I phased out my combo set and play all 785’s currently. I really felt the 585 and 785’s were comparable in forgiveness, but 785 also felt better (everyone in a while if I caught the 585’s high in the face it had a weird sound/feeling, especially on knockdowns, but didn’t get that with the 785’s). I am a 3-4index and the weakest part of my game is Iron play (mid to longer irons, strong short iron and wedge player). These have produced steady results for me. I know a few people who also play these and almost everyone of them swears these are the best irons they have played (two of those people ordered theirs right after hitting mine). I had a set of MP-33’s years ago that I loved, and sadly sold (they were a bit short distance wise compared to other irons), and I missed how good those felt, and the Srixons actually feel better that those did and they go a good distance. Another thing that I like about the Srixons is that it is easy to dial these in fitting wise, as Srixon offers hard and soft stepping in all theirs shafts options whether custom or stock option.

After a bad season last year, I have started hitting my irons so much better. Found my clubs were 2degrees too flat, had them bent and loving them again (after a first proper fitting ever). Currently a 12, seriously looking at upgrading my 765s to the 785s as they are really pretty. Will try and get a fitting and see how they compare to my current clubs. I currently have KBS Tour-V shafts. Fitter got me into the KBS Tour 120 gram shafts, appears I am more consistent with a heavier shaft.

I have the 785 in my 8i to PW and I'm really enjoying them. I'm a 16-18 handicap right now and a solid to good ball striker and they're not hard to hit, to my eye they are very nice not too thin of a top line.

Some people say they don't spin as much as they liked and it's true the Srixon line doesn't spin as much but i naturally spin my irons more so they work perfect for me. They are also made for guys with a bit steeper of a swing so if you have a shallow swing the sole may be off for you.

So in that case maybe look at the JPX line for something similar but I may go with the 785 up to my 5i maybe.

Why aren't the Srixon irons becoming more popular on tour? The last 3 lines they have made are just spectacular in every way. They are so much better then anything else i have ever used
