Pleased to wake up this morning and find out that JT got the win over night. He has moved into a pretty impressive bracket when it comes to 12 wins before 27 alongside Woods, Nicklaus and Snead. He’s never going to have a career like either of those 3 but if he keeps on going the way that he is, he is going to end up somewhere pretty impressive.

Not only that he was unapologetic, he just seemed to outright lie about it. But must say it is fun having him out there to root against. And to hope he can change his ways and redeem himself.

I’m sorry for this post first of all. I agree with your posts a lot of the time. But I must. You should add the disclaimer “ in my opinion “. Because both are just that. If he could be proven to have cheated he’d have been DQed. And liar ? How on earth do we prove what he knows and when he knew it. I find it quite ironic that a drunk fan yells “ cheater” as he hits his putt , and somehow the persons character that is mentioned is Reed. Pot calling the kettle black is what I see. And yes. That’s my opinion too.

The drop was fine. The replay from a different angle showed how it hooked and went in where he dropped.

And that’s the problem. The public needs its ego stroked with a tiger like self deprecating apology. Which is always fake. Tiger too. Very scripted and cringe worthy in my opinion. The public eats that fake stuff up. The irony there is thick. They ask for “ real “. He gives it in the form of F you I don’t care what you think “ and they clamor for fake. Hilarious.

It's the excuse "camera angle"?? Really?

If he said "I have been penalized. I don't agree with it. Next question."....that would've been the F U- I don't care what you think.

 

By giving the weak camera angle excuse it seemed he was trying to weasel his way out of it.

 

That said I am not a fan of fans shouting negatives at any players under any circumstances.

He broke a rule and was penalized. These guys know they have cameras on them at every angle, so to call someone a blatant cheater is a bit of a stretch.

Those shouting obscenities and behaving poorly while at professional sporting events lack class and etiquette.

It’s not bothering Reed near as much as it bothers folks like me who love the game and despise seeing it turn into a hockey rink atmosphere. I just can’t stand the hypocrisy of the idea that someone will yell obscenities at a player for going afoul of the rules of a game based on honor and integrity. When shouting threats like a “ football” fan is the very opposite of honor or integrity.

 

IF he knowingly cheated the game will get its blood. We don’t need the idiotic , mob mentality nonsense.

Lets think about the facts here for those calling this karma for Reed. He hit something like 30 % of greens in regulation for last 54 holes. And still was in contention. He drained a 20 footer to post a number that held up. While all the other players seemed to have the bad luck. Then he nearly won in the playoff and would have if not for a circus shot by JT. That doesn’t sound like karma working against Reed to me .

and i think jt has more than proven he is NOT a closer like tiger woods ... those were 3 horrible shots on 18, esp the two 2nd shots ... weekend amateur stuff there, really ...

Come on man, that’s just silly. JT and Schauffele trying time give it away is some sort of “fact” which proves Reed isn’t a cheater? First of all, JT won the thing in the end. Second of all, who’s to say it wasn’t karma that caused Reed to miss that last eight footer?

It was one guy out of a ton of folks around there - the fact he got away with it twice made me wonder if he was hiding behind the grandstands somewhere like the chickens__t he is. I hate that stuff. I was waiting to see what the announcers were going to make of it and not much really, and on the show after when it came up Brandel and Notah with an uncomfortable moment of silence before talking about it a little - almost like (and yes I'm reading stuff into it) they think the guy is right and it colored their view a bit. Then again, maybe they weren't making too much of it to not encourage more of it.

 

Wasn't it at the Sony last year when there was all the hand wringing about how the then recently broken story of caddie-gate might affect Kuch and whether he'd be taunted, etc.?

 

Rightly or wrongly each of them reaped and will reap a bit of what they sowed - but the PGA Tour has been right there for the past several years explicitly allowing and encouraging a rollicking party atmosphere at one tournament in particular and every year it spills over for awhile into other events, some which on a small scale try to "copy" the atmosphere. I think it was at the Sony last year as well there was an issue with a grandstand and party type stuff on one of the holes. Kuch and Reed are two special cases, but give some doofuses a reason and knowledge they can probably get away with it and it's going to happen.

 

PGA of America better be ready for better control at the Ryder Cup this year vs. Hazeltine.

Missed the point. The “ fact “ statement has to do with Reed missing so many greens and putting that well to still tie for the lead after 72. That’s not the karma that a cheater should expect.

 

For the karma narrative to fit he’s have needed to have the 54 hole lead and blow it in a hilarious comedy of errors and bad luck. I’m just saying the “ karma” truth sayers have it backwards.

I really do need to laugh at times especially surrounding topics like this. With all the treads on course etiquette, tucked shirts, honor, etc. to nausea, some of the same grand ole golf supporters then rally behind those who act a fool solely because they feel Reed and others like him deserve it..

 

Obviously this is what the PGA wants during telecast and at these tournaments because it never ends... Even after the altercation between Reed's caddie and the attendee...

 

Maybe it's time to ditch all the nostalgic formalities and traditions.

i haven't watched that much of this tournament in the past, other than the final round ... watched most of the broadcasts each day and really enjoyed the wind/elevation changes and the resulting mixture of shots that had to be hit ... nice to see some punch shots into the wind, different kinds of chipping around the greens, etc ... great course to watch on tv ...
