Right. And while not all equipment changes pan out, I'm struggling to think of someone who switched to PING and didn't at least maintain the level of play they had prior to the switch. I think PING by and large does a great job of fitting their staff to their equipment.

This thread is hilarious. Good thing none of us ever liked more than one kind of club! I’ve played Mizuno and Ping. They’re different, but one is not better than the other except as a matter of taste.

Two great clubmakers. One of them offers him a sponsorship to play their equipment. The player is a self-employed businessman making a buck. I don’t think many at his level as a tour pro would turn it down.

But in this politically correct times, I am surprised to see a hashtag "white power" in his tweet.

I am hoping it means something else in this context, but even if it does, surprised to see that he would use it even as a double entendre.

Couldn't agree more, play what works best. But we are talking about a professional who publicly came out and said, "dare i say that I will never play another iron again" and saying something along the lines of losing his mizuno virginity. And he then switches from 919 tours to mp20 mmc's and then a few months later signs with ping. What's funny to me and why I said, "sellout", is due to the fact that he acts like a loyal mizuno fanboy one second, and then signs with ping later. Act like a professional and idiotic comments wouldn't be made about his idiotic social media posts.

I realize some of you will point out a few exceptions but by and large pros play what someone will pay them to play. If Pepperel is a sellout then so is virtually every other pro golfer who signed an equipment contract.

Yes, generally pros play what pays, they are out their to make a living.... but, virtually every other pro isn't making personal social media posts about how they will never play another brand. This is what makes Pepperel unique in this situation of signing with a new company.

In advertising and marketing terms statements like "I'll never play another iron" or "I'll always play Mizuno" would fall under puffery. As regards sponsorship, players play under contract at the pleasure of the equipment mfr. He may have even been sincere when he said whatever he said but as someone else pointed out he had a PING driver in the bag while with Mizuno and its possible that Mizuno made it a condition of continued sponsorship that he play a Mizuno driver and he declined. We really don't know. But players change sponsors all the time. Other than some non-legally binding statements from Peperell I don't know what makes him so different. Tempest in a teapot.

That's a very good question. Looking at PING's site I see Harris English who I believe was with Callaway previously and appears to be enjoying a career renaissance since last year.
