Titleist 716 AP2

Got a set of Titleist 716 AP2 of eBay and they have a couple of things that make me suspicious. A magnet sticks all over the club face, sole, etc. Wasn’t sure if the magnet test applied to this year. Also the serial number is laser on the 6 iron but there is no Titleist hologram sticker. Thanks in advance for any help. Contacted Titleist with serial number but no word back yet.

Curious as well. Mine are the same. Everything I've found on the counterfeit clubs the lettering was was off on the clubs. Especially where is says tungsten and forged on the back of the clubhead.

Also my serial number isn't far off from yours. Probably got them from the same guys.

From those pics, they look legit compared to other fakes out there I have seen... maybe post up some pics of the shafts as well and grips.... Also, if there is a serial number you should be able to contact Titleist and ask them. I wouldn't judge too much by the magnet technique. I had some 714 AP2s and a magnet stuck all over those, too. Is the serial just on one club, or all?

 

EDIT* I see just the 6i. That's pretty typical as well for the real ones...

Look like fakes. Hopefully Titleist will say they are real.

People fake ap2’s? Seems like a lot of work for not that much pay off

I think yours are from a newer run because the serials were “stamped” in with a little “chisel” in the past. The 718 appears to be etched. Also the single iron serial are on sets that are “stock” and shipped directly to the retail store. Custom order ones have serials on all irons. From the pictures they look real. Take some more pictures of all the irons and make sure the tungsten is visible.

More pics, everything on him looks pretty good the only thing that throws me off is the way the 716 looks with the clean lines are on the six iron, but on the 4 irons it looks little different and the paint fill is not as nice.

As far as I can tell, those are real. I had an older set of the 716s and the serial number looked different but ordered a 3i much later on and the serial looked like yours. Titleist's paint fill isn't always perfect and the "716" didn't really match on mine either, so don't fret about that. Everything else looks legit to me though, I don't think you have anything to worry about. Feel free to check with Titleist but I would be shocked if those were fakes.... The fakes are pretty obvious... There was a thread in the DoND section that has pics of fake 716 AP2.... they're bad.

You buy these on ebay from ksouth9 by chance? I have a set that looks identical to yours that I bought from him. I recently started worrying about the authenticity as the serial number looked different from the serial numbers on my Vokey wedges. Were you able to confirm their authenticity?

Post up some pics, man, but I am almost positive OPs irons are real. ksouth is a pretty reputable seller, I do not think I would be too concerned but if you are, take some pics so we can get a look. The fake 716 AP2 are pretty obvious when put down next to each other..

Ksouth is a large golf wholesaler. I believe they are located in Tennessee... but that could be wrong. They do not go by Ksouth, its like Tennessee Golf Outfitters. (I know that is butchered and not correct but it is what is coming to mind) I know this because I used to work for a golf shop for about 8 years, and we would buy tons of close outs from all of the OEM's to sell in our B&M locations as well as on eBay. I asked our Mizuno rep once about all of these brand new MP sets I saw from Ksouth on eBay and how we could get our hands on some of these. He contacted corporate and found out who they were and that they had an exclusive deal set up. I would be willing to bet anything bought from them is legit. (not shilling for them either, as I run my own eBay golf store)

They look legit. I have the same clubs. The black 716 lettering fell/wore off of one my irons very early on. I was tempted to fill it in myself...but never did fearing it would look bad. Maybe they did?

Yes they were authentic, I have also bought items from ksouth without issues.
