Bridgestone J40 irons... love at first strike!

General appreciation post...

Recently managed to (get extremely lucky) find some pre-owned J40 irons (DPC with Project X Flighted) at a crazy cheap price. I say pre-owned, but you wouldn't know it. The beauties are like new! Made it out to the range finally (heat has been crazy here in Aus) and oh my god... I'm in love! The clean crisp strike (when I manage to), the soft feel... amazing.

I know there are a few posts about them on the forum, but keen to hear from others still rocking these sticks. How are you finding them? Any longer term issues? Still in love?

Yep the Bridgestone J40 irons are superb. Very solid forged feel and quite forgiving. To this day, the DPC and CB design are still being copied by others. I would hang on to them, they are hard to find new or in very good condition.

Just too big and had the Japanese shape circa 80s.

I actually won the B Flight Championships in my club shooting around a projected 6over average over the 3 matches. I just would hit choked down 8irons instead of the pw from 120.

My short game is pretty good as well. I attribute that to the sets of original X Forged MD wedges that I hoard.

Both the CB and DPC are as good a forged iron you can get. I went through 3 sets of J40 CB (coming from J33 Blades) and kept a solid + handicap using them for 4 seasons. I have two new sets of CB heads 3-PW that will get graphite shafts when my run with the S55's are over. Couples bagged the J40 DPC for 4 years and said they were his all-time favorite.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

The sole on the J40's are the best I've ever bagged for playing in all conditions. I've had such good luck (ENJOYED) the MMT 125's that I'm gonna re-shaft a set of these new J40's with 'em. The ONLY reason I went with the S55 over another set of J40CB or the newer J15 is the durability of the PING. I was playing or practicing literally everyday and going thru a set of Bridgestones per year. That's really the reason I stopped playing Miura's. These recent threads made me get the J40's (with X100's) out of the closet and hit 'em. Man I really miss playing them.

What do you guys think a fair price would be for a really nice set of these heads? I just listed a set for $250 but I really don’t know if that is a good price? I want it to be a good value to a fellow member vs trying to milk top dollar. Where would you guys price them?

Thank You

Came across this thread from a google search about the J40's.  Saw a nice looking set of used irons (the J40's) for sale in my local pro-shop, a little beat up, but still sexy.  Took them out to hit on the range on a whim ... then bought them.  Love the feel and the flight, and I can hit the crap out of that 4-iron, which is more than I can say for my previous gamers.  I'd been using the Miura CB57 and have really enjoyed them.  They forced me to get better by being a little harder to hit than what would be ideal for me.  I switched to the J40's and am in love, perfect with feel and right in my wheel-house of performance/playability.  They just naturally produce that baby-draw that I love to hit.  They seem to not be as workable as the CB57's, they just want to go straighter, but for my level of play, it's hard to complain about that.  They're also about a club longer than the CB57's with the same amount of effort.

Got them for $100, but the set was missing the 7-iron, so I'm having to use my CB57 7-iron, which is a bit of a bummer.  If anyone has a 7-iron of this model they'd be willing to sell, let me know.
