Ok balooning the ball from a tee shot is most likely from to much top spin right? So theoretically a guy who hits the ball with too much top spin needs a really low spinning ball from off the driver right? if so, can u please reccomend really low spinning balls off the driver because i want to see how they perform compared to a hig spinning ball. PLease give me a list of high spin balls and low spin balls all according to the driver. Just so we are clear, i do not have a balooning problem with my driver i am just curious.

Best thing to do is check if your driver is fitted to you. Shaft, loft, and yes ball, will all contirbute to the balloning. Lower lofts can help, so the best thing would be to get on a launch monitor.

I noticed you are playing a 10.5 degree loft in your driver. This is a possible culprit if you're balooning your drives.

 

As far as balls, I would recommend trying any of the lower spinning balls such as the proV1x, HX Tour, One Black, and particularly the Srixon Z-UR which is the lowest spinning ball in its category. But expect to lose a little softenss and feel around the greens especially with the Z-UR which feels like a top-flite on and around the greens.

No.. i have no problem with ballooning and the 10.5 is perfect because i hit the ball pretty low, just wanted to know why some people that i know can hit the ball so much higer then me with an 8 degree driver. I hit my 10.5 at a 13.6 launch agle.

Beyond clubhead speed, ball construction, and the other things mentioned above, I think hitting down on the ball would increase backspin (rather than a sweeping/upward impact --> potentially less backspin). If you sweep the ball off the tee at an ascending arc, and your friend descends to the ball through impact...that might lead to the results you're seeing.

 

Additionally, some drivers are designed with deep faces, when used properly they can reduce backspin slightly. If you strike the ball high on the clubface (above the COG), the vertical curvature of the face induces a gear-effect that reduces backspin slightly.

 

Likewise, if your friends make contact with the ball low on the face, below the COG, the vertical curvature might induce a gear effect in the opposite direction, enhancing backspin slightly.

Sorry, my bad, I thought you were talking about You balooning the driver.

 

Nonetheless, the loft isn't the end-all-be-all of launch angle. The angle of attack is much more important for determining launch. Also, shaft stiffness, kick point, ball position, ball composition, and about a dozen other factors all come into play. Loft angle is just one of those factors.
