My Initial Experience with Mavrik (Now Vs Sim on Pg. 2)

Yesterday I had the opportunity with one of my really good friends who is a head professional and club fitter to hit the new Mavrik Drivers. We were hitting balls outside, 5-8mph left to right wind with real prov1's on Flightscope X3. A little bit about myself I am 24 years old, play off about a +1.5 hcp and am a very high launch, high speed low spin player.

First to get my tempo I hit my gamer, a 2017 M1 460 with a

truespec built Tour AD GP 6x Black playing 45” at 7.75 lasered loft.

I was averaging

123 CHS

181 BS

14.4 Launch

1750 Spin

298 carry

321 Total

With an average dispersion of 18.8 yards left

My normal flight is a tight draw with my miss being a block to the right. I was hitting mine just about to my usual standard.

I just want it to be known that I usually am not a Callaway clubs fan, I find them hard to set up to and to control, I’ve gamed TM drivers for the last 5 years but I do always test all brands before coming to my decisions.

When we got to the time to hit the Mavrik I wanted to start with the 9* regular head before the SZ. The shaft he had in the cart that we thought would be a good baseline is the new stock Aldila Rogue White 130MSI 70x and I’ll skip talking about every other shaft I hit because this was BY FAR the best.

With the 9* regular head tuned to -1 with the Rogue 130 Averaged

125.2 CHS

183 BS

18.3 Launch (yikes)

2400 Spin

308 Carry

328 Total

With an average dispersion of 11.4 yards left

I absolutely loved the feel and shape of this head, its gorgeous, exactly what I like in a head a beautiful rounded shape, the carbon looks great with its finish, if I could find a way to get a 2* green adapter for this or a tour head with less loft I would game this driver any day of the week its that confident to look at and easy to work both directions if necessary.

Then we moved to the SZ head. 9* and yes tuned back down -1 with the same Rogue White 130MSI 70x and OH MAN. I got some numbers that I have not gotten out of a driver before without it being a long drive club of my buddies. This thing is a CANNON.

My averages were

127.6 CHS

186.7 BS

14.7 Launch

1900 Spin

322 yards of carry

343 yards total

With an average dispersion of 9.8 yards to the right.

There was something about this driver that allowed me to swing harder with zero fear that it was ever going to go to the left which is an INCREDIBLE FEELING for someone who always has fought a hook with driver. I also had a few that crested over the 130’s in swing speed and touched 191 ball speed.

The conclusion of this all is 2020 will be the year that my old faithful will probably be replaced. Next Monday I have a fitting to try the SIM and SIM Max and also will be able to hit the same set up of the Mavrik I hit in this session. So far, I am fully blown away by a Callaway club besides my PM Grind 60.

Below in the comments I'll have sadly the only picture that he let me take of the flightscopes screen...

How's it sound? Looks like you were getting more in the groove as time went on, so that explains the CHS increase. Your smash was basically the same between all the clubs. Use the same head speed with your taylormade and you probably get close to the same numbers as you got with the Callaway at the end. Dispersion could be the shaft just being a better fit.

You're personally very impressive but I don't see anything worth spending $500 on. If you get a heavy discount or you're playing on a mini tour then sure but if you're just out there like most of us (for fun) then idk. Unless you think the rise in chs was purely from the head, I wouldn't be buying this in your shoes if you're just a weekend warrior.

gaining 25 yards means that you weren't properly fit in your previous driver. Congrats on the gains! Have a great season with the Cally.

Sounded good to me wayyyy more muted than the flash ever was. More towards the OG epic or the rogue SZ muted sound

The love isn’t lost but with the significant gains I saw I may have to fall in love with something new. I’ve gamed 2 of the M1 460’s and nothing else since summer of 2017

the sound was great! I’m a high school coach and I play in 5-8 mini events across FL a year so I’m far from a weekend warrior, I have my connections more with Taylormade and Mizuno than I do with Callaway so it may be done. I switched back to my gamer after the pickup of distance and speed with the Callaway and I dropped back down to my 123-125 with my M1. The Rogue white 130 was smooth and easy to swing as any shaft I’ve ever swung. So we’ll see what the Taylormade Fitting has to say on Monday, more to come for sure
